“You know, you are kind of gloomy and disgusting”

The woman said as if mocking me.

So there I was, awake, looking up at my usual ceiling. I was sweating profusely,, and the events of my dream were burned into my brain and wouldn’t leave.

“It’s the worst….”

Ren Hayasaka dislikes women, or more precisely, I hate women.

When I was in middle school, I had one ex-girlfriend. I broke up with my ex-girlfriend for a certain reason.

One reason was that I was cheated on by a man who I thought was my best friend.

My best friend then got down on his knees and apologized to me, and I vowed that I would never forgive him, and that I would never have anything to do with him in the future.

As for my ex-girlfriend, when she heard that my family was a bit wealthy, she immediately changed faces and came over.

“I’m sorry~he attacked me, can you believe it?”

That one comment changed the way I looked at women. I thought all women must be like her, so I gave my ex-girlfriend the middle finger and said to her,

“Die, you ugly b***h, I don’t want to see your face anymore.”

From there, my ex-girlfriend’s friend, who was listening to it, tipped off the teacher, and I got in trouble.

“Hey Ren, don’t you think she is cute, too? The Angel”

“Angel?”

“Don’t you know? Angel is the prettiest girl in our school, you know?”

Beautiful blonde hair, big eyes, and flawless style.

The Angel seemed to be perfect in every way. The one who was making such an impassioned speech next to me was Takuto Shinohara, and, well, my friend.

“I’m not interested.”

“You really don’t know much about girls~”

“You’ll never get a girlfriend if you’re like that, you know?”. Even though I was told that, I thought I would be fine with being single for the rest of my life.

I knew that even if I loved one woman, I would soon be betrayed by her.

On the way home from my part-time job, I stopped by a convenience store and it was already well past 11:00 pm.

Thinking that it was getting quite late, I tried to walk home a little faster, but in the dimly lit nighttime street, I had a strange imagination.

There was a small park near my apartment.

There, a woman was sitting on a swing. I didn’t believe in ghosts, but it was quaint and eerie.

My curiosity got the better of me, so I turned on the light on my phone and timidly approached the woman with dark hair and big eyes.

She must have noticed me, but she didn’t move.

But there was some sadness in the woman’s eyes.

“Hey, what are you doing?”

I found myself calling out to her.

“…I’m on the swing”

“That’s not what I meant, I’m asking why you’re in this park at this hour.”

“I don’t have a home to go back to….”

Ah, no good, she was the crazy type, I thought it would be better not to get involved, and tried to leave the place.

Then came a “Gurururu” sound from the woman’s stomach, which was rather loud.

When I looked at the woman, there was no sign of embarrassment, just a look of despair.

“Hey, I’ll give you this, you must be hungry, right?”

Saying that, I handed her a steamed bun that I had just bought at a convenience store.

“Eh… but”

“Just take it, I forgot I’m full.”

“….Thank you…very much”

Saying that, her figure was like a small animal as she ate the steamed bun.

With this, I thought I was done and left the place.

Ueee, Ueee. This time it sounded like crying.

I immediately turned around and saw that she had just thrown up the steamed bun she was eating.

No matter how much I disliked women, I was not such a demon that I could leave her alone when I saw her throwing up next to me.

I tugged on the woman’s arm.

“Wha… what are you doing?”

“I’m not that much of a demon to leave someone who’s sick and doesn’t have a home.”

“I’m not sick…, I just don’t feel well.”

I told her that I didn’t care and asked her to come, and let her go up to my room.

I offered her a cup of hot cocoa to calm her down.

“Thank you, I feel calmer.”

“So? Why were you there?”

“For some reason…”

“Well, if you don’t want to tell me, that’s fine, but you’re going home tomorrow.”

“Why are you being so nice to me?”

She asked with a somewhat wary expression. It was natural to be wary, she was in the room of someone she didn’t know at all.

“Because…You had the same eyes as me.”

“I think the shape and size are different, but…”

“That’s not what I mean. It’s the eyes of despair, the eyes that don’t care about anything anymore.”

When she heard this, her eyes widened, as if I had hit the bull’s-eye.

“I don’t have any illicit intentions to attack you or anything like that, so….”

“I know, Hayasaka-kun.”

Did she just call my name? How did she know? I wondered, but didn’t pursue it too much.

“Go take a bath, and I’ll lend you my clothes.”

“Okay, excuse me.”

I said and lent her my hoodie and sweatshirt.

“Thank you for the bath.”

When she came out, her hair, which had been black until a moment ago, had turned blonde. I guessed that she had dyed her hair black with some kind of spray or something.

Then I remembered what Takuto had said.

Beautiful blonde hair, big eyes, perfect style.

I thought it was impossible, so I asked her about it.

“Hey, is it Sakurazaka High School?”

“Yes.”

“What year are you in?”

“Class 1-3.”

“No way… the Angel?”

‘Please don’t call me that,’ she said, her cheeks flushing a little.

“But I’m starting to think a little bit better of you, Hayasaka-kun, for being able to go this far with someone you’ve never been involved with at all.”

“It’s nothing…”

I just couldn’t see it and I didn’t do anything to improve my image.

“I like you, Hayasaka-kun.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me.”

“As a friend?”

“I’m sorry, but I don’t like you.”

With that, I ran away and took a bath.
