Forever (3)

At 5:30pm, after the interview and thank you event, Jiang Yuhe and Wen Yu took Xiao Shi back to Jiang’s villa for dinner.

Today was the 15th day of the first lunar month, the Lantern Festival, a day for family reunion.

Wen Yi’an had called Wen Yu in the afternoon to say his blessings.

He had a long way to go in trying to reconnect with his ex-wife over the years. Although there was no clear result so far, from Song Zhixin’s attitude, their remarriage was only a matter of time.

When he was young, he loved vigorously, but he was stubborn when they separated. When he was middle-aged, he was used to seeing the wind and rain, and then realized that he couldn’t let go of the other party. Although he understood this truth a little late, in the end, he could still seek a satisfactory result.

At 6:30pm, the lights were on in Beijing. Several festive red lanterns were hung outside the Jiang family villa.

The table was already full of fragrant dishes. Fu Wenqing sat on the main seat, next to his son and daughter-in-law who came back from the United States for New Year’s Eve. Jiang Linwei leaned close to her parents, waiting anxiously for Jiang Yuhe and his family to come. When they arrived, she was the first to get up and went over to hug Xiao Shi.

“Oh my little baby, let Auntie hug you quickly.”

Xiao Shi babbled and smiled happily.

However, Jiang Lingwei had just started hugging her when the three elders at the back all expressed their dissatisfaction. One by one, they all competed for the hug.

Thus, Xiao Shi was passed from Jiang Lingwei’s hand as if they were playing pass the flower by hitting the drum. Each person hugged her for a few minutes before she finally fell into the hands of the Old Lady.

Fu Wenqing looked at this little girl with well-behaved eyes and doted on her very much. She rubbed her cheeks and said, “Xiao Shi is the only treasure of our Jiang family. I didn’t like your live interview in the afternoon.”

After she finished speaking, she looked up at Wen Yu. “So don’t feel any pressure. Our family doesn’t have the traditional mindset of only having a son.”

Wen Yu originally thought that elders like Fu Wenqing were a bit male-oriented in their bones, not to mention a prestigious family. But to her surprise, the Old Lady turned out to be so perceptive.

“Thank you, Grandma. We… let nature take its course.”

Fu Wenqing said again, “I’m telling the truth. Look, I just love Lingwei more than Yuhe.”

Before Jiang Lingwei, who was next to her, had time to thank her for her favor, Grandma Jiang casually hit her with a sudden hude. “So your brother’s child is one year old. What about your child?”

“…”

Lin Shu also immediately caught up with the topic and asked, “What exactly is going on with you and Xiao Yu’s brother? It’s been two years now. How come there’s still no word?”

Jiang Lingwei evidently didn’t want people to target her. Her eyes fell to the TV, and she quickly changed the subject, “Aren’t this ad’s male and female protagonists the pair of newcomers of Yuyu’s movie? These two are so compatible. They have become so popular recently. Yuyu, you have vision and really know how to choose.”

“…”

The topic was thus broached in this muddled manner. Everyone discussed Wen Yu’s new movie, the box office, the newcomers she was promoting, and so on. Wen Yu took advantage of everyone’s inattention and quietly winked at Jiang Lingwei. “Sister, when can I call you sister-in-law?”

Jiang Lingwei was about to say something when she suddenly frowned, covered her mouth and ran to the bathroom.

The crowd was stunned. Wen Yu even felt a sense of déjà vu from this image. She paused and suddenly thought of something, then she and Jiang Yuhe exchanged glances.

‘…Could it be?’

After the reunion dinner, the family sat together and chatted for a while. It was almost ten o’clock when Jiang Yuhe and Wen Yu went home.

When they arrived home, Jiang Yuhe originally wanted to send Xiao Shi to sleep in the crib, but perhaps because it was a reunion day, Xiao Shi cried non-stop and kicked up a fuss, not wanting to leave Wen Yu’s embrace.

It seemed that she still wanted to sleep on her mother’s chest like she did when she was a few months old.

Wen Yu hurriedly went to take a shower, then put her daughter on the bed, patted her back, and sang a lullaby. After a while, Xiao Shi fell asleep on top of her.

Maybe Wen Yu was too busy during the day, so while she coaxed her daughter to sleep, she also dozed off unknowingly.

By the time Jiang Yuhe came out of the shower, the mother and daughter were sleeping together.

There was a dim yellow light on the head of the bed. Wen Yu’s long hair was gently scattered on the pillow, and a faint fragrance lingered in the air.

She was sleeping so quietly, hugging Xiao Shi in her arms.

One adult and one infant; even the frequency of their breathing seemed to be the same.

Such an ordinary picture made Jiang Yuhe sit by the bed and watch for a long time without moving.

He reached out and gently ruffled the hair on Wen Yu’s cheek, and for some reason, many memories inexplicably flashed back little by little.

From when Wen Yu was hit by his car; from the time she followed behind him and called him Brother; from the time he fell in love with her again and again.

He kept recalling their past.

This was the first time Jiang Yuhe took the initiative to go down memory lane until the present.

Now they actually have a child.

Time seemed to have passed in a flash, but in the end, those once seemingly unreachable desires have now become his most mundane and precious happiness.

Take this moment for instance. Jiang Yuhe could really feel an indescribable satisfaction just watching them fall asleep.

During the Lantern Festival, someone set off fireworks outside the window. Jiang Yuhe was afraid that the noise would disturb Wen Yu and Xiao Shi, so he tiptoed forward and closed the window.

But Wen Yu was woken up.

She opened her eyes and felt as if she were lost in another world. However, the moment she saw Jiang Yuhe, she felt at ease and heaved a sigh of relief. She smiled gently. “Hubby, I had a dream just now.”

Jiang Yuhe gently lay down next to her. “What dream?”

“I dreamed that I was still the Young Missy of the Jiangcheng Wen family, and then my father went bankrupt. I became pitiful, helpless, and crying on the street, but suddenly… you came.”

“Came for what?”

Wen Yu closed her eyes and burrowed into his arms. “I don’t know. I haven’t dreamed the whole thing yet. The sound of fireworks woke me up.”

After a pause, she said, a bit coquettish and complacent, “Maybe you came to say you love me.”

Jiang Yuhe’s lips bent unconsciously. He hugged her tighter tighter, and after a long time, he finally hummed in agreement.

Indeed, he loved her both in and out of her dreams.

The fireworks outside the window illuminated the night sky again and again. The splendor of the sky fell into the world, just as Jiang Yuhe thought and wished at this moment.

‘In this life, I want to fall in love with you forever and ever.’
