[Vigo: Madness]

※Vigo’s POV

Below spreads a village enclosed by high mountains and isolated from the surroundings.

“To think I would reach such a place after following Frick and the others who suddenly disappeared from the royal capital…” (Vigo)

In order to carry out the order to assassinate the Crimson Magic Swordsman Frick given by my employer and master in-name, Gile, I used the organization’s eyes and ears, following them until here.

“Still, to think I would have to climb such a steep mountain… I would not have been able to cross it if I had not brought the Abyss Walkers.” (Vigo)

When I found out that there was no way to the entrance of the village other than through the tunnel, I had an Abyss Walker carry me to climb the mountains which was so steep to the point people keep away from them.

Although some places at high altitude were covered in snow, for Abyss Walkers who boasted strong physical abilities, it was the same as walking on flat ground.

Now, on the cliff overlooking the village, I’m waiting for the person I sent out to probe the state of the village.

Then, I can see the young man, who I sent out to probe and have been waiting for, appearing to have turned off his overcoat that exerts the effect of optical camouflage, climbs the cliff.

When he finally arrives beside me, as though breathing is difficult, he reports with the white mask covering his mouth removed.

“Haah, haah, Vigo-sama, I am sorry for keeping you waiting, I got a great informatio——”

“Idiot! I told you not to remove your mask except in places where the mana has been completely purified! For those without antibodies, the mana contained in the atmosphere of this land would be poisonous! Even just a miniscule amount, if it’s piled up more and more, you would become like ‘that’ too! Do you not want to be together with me, with your compatriots anymore!? If you do, put on your mask immediately!” (Vigo)

I harshly scold the young man who carelessly removed his mask and tell him to put it on again.

Fortunately, I have been confirmed to have immune antibodies, so I can move in this land without wearing a mask, however, the young man before me does not have those antibodies.

Normally, I would not mobilize a young compatriot like him for a dangerous mission outside.

However, because many compatriots lost their loves due to Frick, I have fallen into a situation where I have to bring an inexperienced person like him.

“Gasp! I- I am sorry. I was careless.”

Having put on his mask, the young man kneels before me and bows his head.

“Be careful. As our birthplace has disappeared, we only have the option of living in this land in which is difficult to live. Moreover, we have lost many compatriots. Young people like you are necessary for our compatriots’ future. Don’t easily lose your life due to carelessness.” (Vigo)

“Yes! I will fully engrave those words in my heart.”

“Umu. Now then, report.” (Vigo)

Listening to my words, the young man, who is bowing down his head, raises his face and report the result of his reconnaissance.

“When I hid myself and sneaked into the village in the darkness of the night, I found the carriage of the Henestrosa family as well as the previously mentioned wyvern and giant horse at a place that seems to be an education facility in the center of the village.”

“Fumu, keep going.” (Vigo)

“Because it was so late at night, I couldn’t confirm the appearances of the Crimson Magic Swordsman Frick and Frontier Count’s daughter, but I got an important information at that facility, so I hurriedly returned in the darkness of the night!”

He could not confirm the appearances of the two people who are the targets of the assassination, he says……

After all, I should have brought a veteran or a local collaborator, huh……

It appears that he is very lacking in experience.

Receiving the report from the young man, I am slightly disappointed.

That being said, I think it will not give a positive effect on his future if I tell him that, so I let him continue his report as is.

“So, what is this information that is more important than confirming Frick and co whereabouts? Let’s hear it.” (Vigo)

“Yes! It turned that the orphanage is run by Danton and Philia, who participated in the ‘Superhuman Project’ Gile-sama obtained; I chanced upon a scene where they were talking about old times with the mage called Cinzia, who have been accompanying Frick and co.”

“Wha! What! Is that true!?” (Vigo)

Surprised at the report coming out of the young man’s mouth, I involuntarily grab his shoulder strongly.

“Y-yes. To make sure I wasn’t listening wrongly, I recorded it on this recording. Please confirm!”

“Umu, I will confirm it right away!” (Vigo)

After receiving the small recording from the young man, I insert it into the monocular shaped information terminal and play it.

Focusing my ears on the playback, I carefully examine the contents of the conversation.

I can’t help but get shocked at the content of the conversation.

A crazy project of trying to create powerful artificial human beings by using forbidden devices from the age of the ancient magic civilization period and even magic stones which hold monster’s factor and dragon’s blood.

If I give Gile the testimony of the three who participated in the experiment, he will definitely clap his hands in joy.

And, it seems that the enhanced human beings born from the project are Finn aka the Crimson Magic Swordsman Frick, the Sword Master Alfine, and the Infinite Mage Noelia.

“Fuhuhu, fuhahaha! Well done! This is certainly important information for us! It seems that even in this world, there are people encroached by madness. Fuhahaha!” (Vigo)

I laugh out loud without being able to hold in my overflowing emotions.

The madness of a human creating artificial human is the as the madness of a human recreating human, is it not!

I am not the only one insane.

This world also has the same madmen as me.

It has already been 30 years since I crossed to this world.

Despite it for the sake of saving my compatriots, the calamity I caused had been eroding my heart, however, learning that even in this land, there were people who had the same madness as myself during that calamity, I am relieved from the bottom of my heart.

I wasn’t the only one insane……

I wasn’t the only one.

“Vigo-sama, are you okay?”

Being asked by the young man, I realize that I have been shedding tears as I’m laughing out loud.

Having regained my composure thanks to the words of the young man, I wipe the tears around my eyes and tighten my expression.
