Chapter 83 - It felt as if her heart had been hit by a hammer (2)

After the hallway had fallen silent outside and after waiting a long while after that, Bei Nuan and the others quietly slipped out of the cell.

After the change in management, the keys to the cells had been handed to the occupants of their respective cells. They didn't have to make any extra effort to go out now.

The courtyard was very quiet. Most people were asleep, and there were only two people patrolling the area.

Lu Xingchi glanced at the warehouse, and there were several clangs from the iron doors of the warehouse.

The warehouse was very important; food was stored there. Worried about thieves, the two watchmen immediately sprinted over there.

Bei Nuan and the others took this opportunity to go to the back entrance. Lu Xingchi grasped the lock, the door silently opened, and they smoothly went out.

Lu Xingchi didn't forget to relock the door.

Bei Nuan took out the jeep from her pocket space, opened the car door, jumped into the passenger seat, put on her seat belt, and raised her hand out the window. "Come on! Let's go!"

Du Ruo and Jiang Fei, who hadn't had time to get into the jeep yet: ???

Lu Xingchi smiled. "You're that scared I'll leave you behind?"

He saw right through Bei Nuan's behavior.

From the moment they decided to leave, Bei Nuan had been panicky, lest Lu Xingchi remembered that he wanted to leave her behind. Who knows, he might have temporarily forgotten about that, so she couldn't bring that up or ask him if he had changed his mind. This really was a suitable place to leave her behind.

The prison compound was solid. It was easy to defend and hard to attack, a natural fort.

Bei Nuan had also been elected as the leader. Even if she didn't hold real power and was only put up as a figurehead, they wouldn't treat her too badly as their mascot. So, she didn't want to bring this up and wanted to get into the jeep to quickly leave here.

"Relax, I won't leave you here." Lu Xingchi waited until Du Ruo and Jiang Fei got on before starting the engine.

"Everyone here thinks you have a supernatural ability. That's definitely not a good thing. Moreover, these people are cunning. They'll bully you. Besides, Huo Ren and his group might come back here."

Bei Nuan was touched by his thoughtfulness.

Soon after, she heard a strange sound from Refuge #9. It was a man screaming, which sounded particularly harsh and piercing in the quiet night.

They looked at each other and got off the jeep in unison.

Lu Xingchi unlocked the back entrance, and they went back in.

The screams had come from the building that Lu Xingchi and the others had recently left.

Lu Xingchi looked back and was about to ask for his crossbow. Bei Nuan handed him his crossbow before he could get the words out. They smiled at each other in the darkness.

The screams had come from the third floor. Soon, the screams stopped, and there was only the sound of banging on the door.

Many people in the other cells had been woken up. One after another, they poked their heads out to look.

"Go back to your rooms, lock your doors, and don't come out," Lu Xingchi ordered while heading upstairs with his crossbow.

His tone was resolute without room for doubt. They obediently went back into their rooms, and there was the sound of closing and locking doors everywhere.

When Lu Xingchi's group got to the third floor, they saw the Jiangdong group's boss leading several people down here. His shoes had been slipped on in his rush to get here. His group was armed with kitchen knives and anti-riot police forks.

"Zombies? Where are they?" He shouted with a knife.

This guy was surprisingly courageous in his fight for power.

The incident had happened in a room at the end of the hallway on the third floor. The door was locked, and something was banging away at the door.

Everyone arrived at the door.

Lu Xingchi raised his crossbow and ordered, "Stand back."

He didn't need to repeat himself. Everyone retreated far away.

The door opened on its own with a creak. Two figures streaked out like shot arrows from the room, but they fell down in front of Lu Xingchi in the next second.

It was two zombies.

Although the zombies had disheveled hair, they could still recognize these two acquaintances from the moonlight that came from the end of the hallway. It was the two people that had been hung outside the front gate.

Bei Nuan thought; they must have been scratched by the zombies.

It had been too chaotic at the time. Those two had been hung up from a high height, and it didn't look like there was anything wrong with them when they were untied. Thus, no one thought to carefully examine these two for injuries.

Fortunately, they had locked their doors and hadn't been able to come out after they changed into zombies. Thus, the rest of the occupants on this floor had been spared.

As her thoughts continued down this line, she inexplicably felt a faint sense of unease. Her anxiety grew like a cloud that shrouded her heart.

Bei Nuan frowned as she kept thinking. When she finally figured out what was wrong, it felt as if her heart had been hit by a hammer.

Bei Nuan looked at Du Ruo.

Du Ruo's expression was calm, but he was holding his right hand with his left hand and stroking the scratch on the back of his right hand.

The injury on his hand was caused by that young woman.
