Chapter 31 - Out-of-place (1)

There was a prison near here. These men had probably escaped from the prison during the chaos of the zombie breakout.

Bei Nuan stopped worrying. The plot hadn't deviated at all from the original book.

The three that entered were all humans. In fact, it was okay even if they weren't humans. Lu Xingchi could easily deal with a measly few zombies.

Seeing that they had let in prisoners, a woman screamed. She kept screaming again and again as if she was looking at monsters.

"What are you screaming for?" One of the sturdy prisoners looked up and glared at her. The woman immediately stopped and didn't dare to make another sound.

Lu Xingchi helped them support the injured person onto a wooden bench, and then he asked, "Car accident?"

The sturdy man said, "Yes, we were driving and those things were chasing us. More of them rushed out from behind a car. We turned the car to avoid them, and we accidentally hit a tree."

The person injured was a young man. Even though his face was bloody, his attractive facial features could still be seen including his straight nose with its high bridge.

"They said it's because of a car accident and we're supposed to take their word for it? What if he was bitten?" A middle-aged man sharply asked.

"You guys insist on saving them. What if this leads to everyone's death? How will you take responsibility?" A woman accused.

Bei Nuan thought; if Lu Xingchi hadn't cleared away the zombies earlier, you guys would already be dead. You wouldn't even have the chance to worry about this now.

"Drive out these prisoners! How can prisoners be good people? Get out!" There was a person hiding behind the crowd and instigating. There were too many people and the speaker couldn't be seen.

"Yeah, they can't stay here with us." Many people immediately agreed.

While tempers were flaring, an old man stretched out to look at the injured young man. "Let's throw out the injured person first? We don't know if he's bitten, but he doesn't have long to live anyways."

Du Ruo was addicted to playing devil's advocate. "Old man, there's zombies everywhere outside. Even young people might not be able to survive. Looking at your age and physique, you probably don't have much time left either. You might as well go out with him?"

The old man's wife was displeased. "What a terrible thing to say. Don't you know to respect your elders?"

Du Ruo was unrivaled in his ability to mouth off. "That's right. You should respect your elders. I won't hide. I'm a thousand-year-old fairy. By rights, everyone here should call me Grandpa."

The woman trembled in anger.

Du Ruo ignored her. He walked around the table and offered the bag of chips to Bei Nuan. With his eyes, he asked, "Eat?"

Although his mouth had been busy talking, it didn't delay his eating at all. In such a short time, he had finished off half of the bag.

Bei Nuan took out a chip and tasted it. It was thin and crunchy. She silently mouthed to Du Ruo, "Not spicy enough."

She took out another chip to feed Lu Xingchi, but decided against it. She felt the atmosphere was too serious. Feeding him right now seemed a bit inappropriate.

"You all want to throw him out?" Lu Xingchi surveyed the room.

"Yes," a person boldly declared.

There were timid people that didn't dare to speak, but it was obvious they agreed with that sentiment from their expressions.

Lu Xingchi suddenly relented. "Alright, we're leaving anyway. We'll take him with us."

He asked the other two prisoners, "Do you want to stay here or go with us?"
