Chapter 16 - I know you're pretending (1)

Without rhyme or reason, there was now a black jeep parked in front of them.

Du Ruo's expression immediately froze. It took him a long time to recover from the surprise. He took a deep breath and asked, "Bei Nuan, what's the trick? How did you… conjured a car from thin air?"

He circled the jeep, glanced at the license plate, and opened the trunk. It was full of supplies, everything they couldn't take away.

"This is our car. Little robot, how did you make it appear here?"

Bei Nuan didn't bat an eyelid. "I told you guys a long time ago that I have a special ability. It'll definitely benefit you guys to take me along."

While the others were busy retreating and weren't paying attention, Bei Nuan had collected the two cars into her pocket space. Her pocket dimension was so big, and it was still mostly empty. Adding two cars wasn't a problem. It could even serve as a parking lot.

In contrast, Lu Xingchi wasn't too surprised. He glanced at his jeep and asked Bei Nuan, "Where's your car?"

Bei Nuan didn't respond. It was too scary to drive a car by herself.

Knowing that she only took out the jeep because her intention was to ride in it, Lu Xingchi remained calm. "Where do you want to go? Ningcheng?"

"Actually, my home is in City S," Bei Nuan quietly said, "I don't have any relatives in other places. I don't have anywhere to go."

She had her hands behind her back, and her head was half-down, but she was looking up to secretly observing Lu Xingchi. The big round helmet's face shield was pulled up. Her long fluttering eyelashes could be seen, and they partially blocked her watery eyes. She looked so pitiful like a poor little animal without a home. With such a pure and innocent face, this effect was more than doubled.

Only a person with a heart of stone wouldn't soften at this sight.

Du Ruo definitely wasn't a hard-hearted person and immediately stated, "Since you have nowhere to go, why don't you come with us?"

Lu Xingchi definitely had a heart of stone. He glanced at Du Ruo, and then he suddenly grabbed Bei Nuan by the arm and led her away from Du Ruo before letting her go.

Lu Xingchi learned over Bei Nuan and said in a lowered voice, "Bei Nuan, knock it off, your act won't work on me. I know you're pretending."

Bei Nuan was resolute in not acting out-of-character. She looked at him with an even more innocent expression and blinked.

He was invulnerable and very difficult to deal with.

Should she try crying? What would have the better effect: two teardrops or flat out bawling?

Bei Nuan couldn't decide.

Lu Xingchi suddenly said, "Well, you helped me out. I can take you along for a while until I find a safe place to leave you."

Really?

Lu Xingchi paused. "It's mainly because we're in the middle of nowhere. You're not a good driver, and Du Ruo falls for your act. If I leave you behind, he'll keep nagging me."

Lu Xingchi turned the conversation around. "But I have conditions."

Being able to talk about conditions meant she had succeeded. Bei Nuan stopped pretending to be pitiful. Overjoyed, she asked, "What conditions?"

Lu Xingchi stared at her, observing her expression like a hawk.

"While you're with us, there's three conditions. First, follow my orders. You're not allowed to make any arbitrary decisions of your own. Second, hide your special ability. Be careful. Don't let others know about it."

Bei Nuan asked, "And the third condition?"
