Chapter 3 – Reunion with Jorha Eisenz

“…I see. That’s why Alec looked so depressed.”

It’s been a long time since we met. I felt sorry for Jorha, who had been listening to my complaining without a single expression of annoyance. But I felt better for sharing it with her.

By talking to her, I was able to alleviate some of my pain.

“…I’m sorry, Jorha, for telling you such a sad story, even though we haven’t seen each other in four years.”

“You’ve been through a lot, haven’t you?”

“Well, yeah.”

Actually, the majority of people who work as court magicians are nobles.

In the public eye, the best magicians in the kingdom are chosen to be court magicians. But unless they are particularly talented, only those from noble families can be selected for this position.

Even if someone from a non-noble family is chosen to be a court magician, they will inevitably be dragged down by convention and will not be looked upon favorably.

In general, they are just forcing you to do some troublesome work. There has been a time in the past when I’ve been forced into a role where I was likely to make a mistake, and then I was kicked out because of it.

I can’t stop smiling when she mentions the name of one of my old friends. I wish Ornest were doing well.

“And that’s actually the reason why I returned to the royal capital.”

I remembered what she said.

She had been listening to my complaints, but then I wondered why Jorha was in the capital when I was going to ask her about that.

“——Hey, Alec. Do you want to conquer the dungeon with us again?”

Jorha reached out her hands towards me.

“We need your help, Alec.”

I was honestly happy to hear those words. In the past four years, I hadn’t really had the experience of being relied on by anyone like I had when I was at the magic academy.

“…I’m a useless ex-court magician, you know?”

I returned the words asking if it was okay. In response to my self-deprecating remarks, the reply came back with——a dazzling smile.

“It doesn’t matter. We need none other than you, Alec Huguette.”

Therefore, it’s no use. Although I was a former court magician, Jorha’s words made me extremely happy.

The next thing I know, I already grabbed Jorha’s hand, that she was stretched out to me.

“We decided that the four of us would become S-ranked together. That’s why we stopped our party at rank-A, and we’ve been conquering just the three of us for a long time.”

We all agreed that one day we would come for Alec. Of course, we didn’t want to force Alec to join the adventurers if he wanted to continue being a court magician. Jorha smiled sadly as she said this.

“From tomorrow onwards, Lord Vaughan, the young genius from the honorable family Duke of Forneus, will be accompanying us instead of that commoner who can only tell lies.”

Four years ago, the magic academy set a fantastic record for dungeon conquering: on the 68th floor.

That was an undeniable fact.

And it’s no exaggeration to say that Alec Huguette was the first “Prodigy ” in the magic academy’s history.

A man who was originally supposed to be an attacker accompanied the overconfident crown prince as he attacked the dungeon and never let him die. The fact is that he had been using supportive magic, which is not his forte, to carry out his role.

It is none other than the first-ever “Prodigy” from the magic academy to protect the overconfident people who could not even get through the 20th floor according to their abilities and protected them until the 30th floor. And yet, they didn’t even realize it.
