Chapter 106 - Silly Excuses

Name:When You Are Mine Author:Da_Rose
Jake continued the drive in silence. He racked is brain for what to say so he could keep hearing her voice. In all honesty, he liked the sound of her voice. The softness of her voice was pleasing to his ears. If only she wasn't so quiet all the time.

Jake was still thinking about what to say when he heard Jade speak to someone over the phone.

"Hey Bf" Jade said over the phone.

"Hey pumpkin, why are you calling so late?" Lair asked. It was unusual to see Jade call at this time.

"I'm at your estate gate, Please come out" Jade said.

"Why? You miss me that much?" Lair teased.

"You wish" Jade rolled her eyes even though Lair couldn't see it. "Just get yourself downstairs okay" Jade said before hanging up.

"Mr Beau please take the next turn" Jade said directing Jake, who currently had millions of questions running through his mind right now.

"Okay" He nodded. Did he just hear a male voice over the phone, and she had called him 'BF' again? It was the same person she had an appointment with the other day right? Could it be that same guy at the party? He has noticed the difference in her tone whenever she spoke to this 'Bf' of hers.

"Please pull over by the next house there" Jade said pointing at a building not so far off. From the moment Jake had driven into the estate, he knew that the girl lying on the back seat of his car, did not have an ordinary background. This estate was one of the high end ones in the city. It was extremely expensive and was mostly inhabited by government officials.

He looked at the building which he had pulled in front of, but what really caught his eyes was the man standing in front of it. His suspicions was right. It was indeed the guy from the party. The light from the street was more than enough for him to see him clearly, and he can't forget the face he saw at the party.

Jake looked from Lair to the girl sitting right beside him. When he say that smile on her face with her eyes focused on that man, he felt his blood boil as his temper began to rise.

'Why was he getting angry?' Jake calm down.

He frowned when Jade jumped out of the car and waved at the man with her smile widening till her eyes began to shine brightly. He stepped out of the car to help bring Amy down.

"Hey what's up?" Lair said as he approached Jade and the man behind her who was busy with something in the back seat.

"It's Amy" Jade replied as she turned to hold the door for Jake to bring Amy out. Lair was confused, he looked at the man who was trying to get someone out of the car.

"Amy? why?" His asked in confusion. His eyes narrowed and his brows creased when he saw the state his sister was in, when they brought her out of the car. "What happened?" He asked as he rushed over to Amy who was in Jake's arms.

"Sh-e's drunk" Jade replied softly.

"Drunk?" Lair turned to Jade. This was when he noticed how Jade was dressed.

"You both went out?" He asked as he closely examined Amy's face. Her face was red and he could guess it was due to the alcohol.

"Mmm" Jade nodded guiltily. She wasn't able to stop Amy for drinking too much.

Lair turned to Jake who still had Amy in his hands. Lair looked at him with a weird look on his face. The face looked sort of familiar to him, but he couldn't place where he had seen him before.

"Thank you very much. She's my sister" Lair said to Jake. Jake replied at an acknowledging nod as he put Amy into Lair's arms.

"Thank you for bringing them" Lair said appreciatively.

"Its no problem" Jake replied. Lair carried Amy in his hands before turning to Jade. "You're coming in right?" He asked. Jake looked at Jade anxiously waiting for her reply. She wasn't going in right? He was looking forward to driving her home so he could spend some time with her no matter how small.

"Ehmm, I've to go to work by morning, so I have to go home" Jade replied. It was late, she wasn't sure of how she'd get home so late, but she really wanted to. There was something she had to do at home by morning.

"Really? It's late.."

"I'll drop her off. We're both heading in same direction" Jake interjected. Lair looked at Jake intensely before turning to Jade like he was waiting for what she'll say. Jade understood Lair's concern. He hasn't seen her with Jake before, and to him, Jake could be anybody, a criminal perhaps.

"Sure. He'll drop me off. So don't worry about me. Just take Amy in, I'll call her in the morning" Jade said with an assuring smile.

"Are you sure?" Lair asked doubtfully.

"Yeah" Jade nodded, reassuring him.

Okay" Lair was still skeptical about this. He would have preferred Jade spending the night over or maybe dropping her off personally. But if she agrees to this guy taking her, then she must be okay with him. And it seems they were sort of close since it seemed like he knows where Jade lives.

"Call me when you get home okay?" He said, more like he ordered. He'll only be at peace when Jade arrives home.

"Sure" Jade replied with a smile. Jake turned around to the drivers seat. Jade's continuous smile at that guy was making him uncomfortable. Was he really her boyfriend? He didn't like this at all. It had never bothered him if any of the women he had slept with in the past had boyfriends before, but this was different, she was different. He didn't like the thought of Jade having a boyfriend. His suspicions hasn't been confirmed, but he was already feeling like he could kill someone already.

Jade waved at Lair before stepping into Jake's car. Lair watched as the car dissappeared into the night.

"Mr Beau thank you for doing this. I really appreciate it" She said to Jake. Jake looked at her silently, his thoughts were scattered all over, and her slightly glossy lips was not helping matters. He snapped his attention back to the road.

"It's no problem" He replied without looking at her.

"Mr Beau you can drop me by the nearest bus stop. I'll take a taxi from there" Jade said. She was shocked when Jake turned to her with a frown on his face. He looked angry.

"Why?" He asked before glancing back at the road.

"Be-cause you've done enough. I don't want to stress you anymore than I've already done" She explained.

"Did I complain?" He asked.

"No" She softly replied.

"Then that's it. I'll drop you off at your place. Just give me the directions" He said with a tone of finality.

"But Mr Beau..."

"Did you hear that?" Jake hushed her. Jade was confused. She didn't know what he was talking about. She didn't hear anything.

"What?" She asked, her eyes focused on Jake and her ears were suddenly attentive waiting to hear whatever he heard. Jake lowered his eyes to her stomach and Jade's eyes followed suit. She was still confused at what they were looking at, till she heard her stomach grumble. She bit her lip embarrassedly.

She was about having dinner before she received that call from Amy. Now it was really late and she was sure her food would be cold already.

"It seems you have more than one problem. Which should we take care of first?" He glanced at Jade briefly.

"I don't have a problem. I'll just get something at home" She said defensively.

"Well I think you do have a problem. I heard hunger makes pretty girls cranky. Well it does make me lazy, and unfortunately I'm currently hungry. So how about we get something to eat?" He looked at her with a smile on his face.

"Mr Beau..."

"Don't argue with a lazy man miss Jade. I don't think I have sufficient energy to drive you to that bus stop. Let's get a quick bite then I promise to listen to you afterwards" Jake revealed a small smile. Jade could see that he was smiling more than he was the last time they met.

But what's with him all this silly excuses he always spews out. He had said something similar some days back too. Jade still wanted to protest when her stomach grumbled loudly again.

"I guess it's settled then" Jake's smile broadened and Jade felt like his eyes glowed when ever he smiled. His smile really does suit him.

Jake cheered in his heart when Jade finally gave in. Sincerely, he had been scared that Jade would insist on him dropping her off and then he'd miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity. But luckily everything was working out in his favour tonight. Tonight he was going to make her a more relaxed around him. He'd want to see her smile at him the way she does when that guy was around. The thought of Jade smiling at Lair made him frown, but he quickly controlled himself.

He wasn't going to think about all that, he was going to use every little time he gets with her to make her feel more relaxed with him. From now on, he wasn't going to bother himself about finding out the reason why he was so drawn to her or what had changed in him, but rather, he'll learn to enjoy his every second with her and get her to share that beautiful smile of her's with him.

Soon, Jake stopped in front of food truck somewhere in town she was sure she hasn't been too. Jade turned to Jake, curiosity etched in her eyes.

"Mr Beau, what are we doing here?" She asked as she looked at the food truck by her side. Jake glanced at her and said,

"Getting the best street night food miss Jade"
