Can’t We Just be Happy? (21) – unedited

Merson’s figure was obscured by the light, and all of a sudden, the condensed lights scattered silently into the air.

Shaaaa-

The wind picked up and my hair covered my eyes. By the time the turbulence subsided, there was nothing left except me, standing alone.

“He’s gone.”

He’s really gone. Like he was never here.

It was difficult to look away from where Merson had left. Tears I had been holding back ran down my cheeks and pooled under my chin, dripping down to the floor.

“I didn’t cry when I sent my ex-boyfriend to the army*…….”

(T/N: In Korea, conscriptions was mandatory for men, and they usually range about 1,5 years, iirc, so sending your bf for such a long time would be quite sad!)

I don’t know why, but I was sad for no reason and rubbed my eyes with the back of my hand. I was the one who encouraged him to go, but why am I crying? Why was my words and action different?

I entered the house and sat down on the bed. Merson’s warmth, which had been felt just before, cooled in an instant.

It was funny. In one day, things took a turn for the worse.

I wiped the tears away with my hands and stretched out on the bed.

From now on I’m alone. It’s okay though. I’m okay.

“What do I tell the villagers?”

Ha, I don’t know. Emotions are arbitrary, and they keep interfering with rational thoughts. It’s depressing and weak

Yes, we’ve been together for two years, so it’s only natural. We will forget as time goes by.

Kiik-

The door opens. It wasn’t a cautious sound.

Did I not lock the door? After a moment of doubt, I jumped up and looked at the door, not knowing what to expect.

“… Huh?”

“Hi?”

A demon stood there with his purple hair fluttering. A momentary disappointment passed.

And questions big enough to cover it followed.

“Why are you here… Oh, did you leave something behind?”

It’s strange. He didn’t even take a single step into the house.

“Well. Is it correct to say that I put it off for a while rather than leaving it?”

He moved his long legs and slowly entered the room. He didn’t touch it and the door slammed behind his back and closed.

Could it be because of the heavy air? Goosebumps rose on my body

“Don’t be so vigilant.”

“Me?”

“Now there is nowhere to retreat.”

Before I could even realize it, a cold wall hit my back. Without realizing it, I was avoiding him and backing away. I ended up sitting on the bed.

“Because I don’t like dragging things out. I’ll finish it in one go.”

“What?”

I read the atmosphere, but I didn’t understand it. It was clear that the demon was trying to harm me now. I could tell just by looking at those murderous eyes. If it were an animal, it would lower its tail and throw me out.

I hurriedly found something that could be a weapon. I’m on the top of the bed, so damn it, I can only see soft duvets and pillows.

“Don’t roll your eyes. Nothing is a threat to me.”

“What the hell are you?”

I wasn’t kind enough to show respect to anyone who showed hostility to me. He shrugged his shoulders and answered the question.

“As you can see, a demon.”

“Are you kidding me? Why are you doing this to me?”

“Well, does it make sense to say that it is an experiment?”

Could it be you? As I wrinkled my face, he added a few more words.

“I think you ate something very important. An experiment to see if it is in your body or not.”

I usually eat a lot, but I don’t remember eating anything you would covet?! I brought the mulcho to the village chief!

“Nothing like that!”

“Then you’ll die”

“What? Uhk…… !”

The demon didn’t lift a hand on my body, but my feet lifted and my body floated up. It felt like a giant strangling my neck.

My two feet struggled at will at the terrible pain I experienced for the first time. I grabbed my neck to get out of the pain, but my nails just pierced my flesh.

“Kugh…….”

The demon was looking up at me with an expressionless face.

There were tears or runny nose, and it flowed down smoothly. I wanted to scream in terrible pain, but no sound came out. My ears are numb and it feels like all the blood vessels on my face are about to burst.

“It will be over soon. Hang on a little.”

“Fu… ugh, don’t… shit, kuhk!”

“What?”

Fuck you, don’t talk bullshit! I didn’t really understand why it had to be like this all of a sudden.

Getting a mysterious death after doing chores all the time in an unfamiliar countryside! I barely made it in the first chapter, and right away I died, what a futile ending!

I’m angry. I still have a lot of work to do!

I had to bring Chenin for the village chief and the village, even had to wait for Merson to come to see me to keep his promise, and I had to meet Saint Serdebella and open the door to another world and go home.

However, contrary to my will, my mind gradually drifted away. My arms and legs, which had been writhing violently, lost strength, and my eyelids, which had been wide open in pain, were coming down. As if black paint spread, the world became darker and darker.

Unfortunately, when I think, ‘Is this the end?’ ….

“Cough! Haa… haa…….”

Oxygen filled my head and the feeling that was pressing on my neck disappeared. The body floating in the air with no place to lean on was hugged by someone.

I couldn’t properly judge the situation because I was inhaling big breaths. Someone shook my head and calmed my body shaking with fear.

Surprisingly, I gradually became more stable in those hands. As I was about to raise my head and look at the owner, the hand touched my forehead.

A sense of refreshment spreads in my mind, and my body feels drowsy. Someone supported me as I dropped my head helplessly. I’ve experienced this feeling once before…….

It’s not the darkness of death, but drowsiness. Red eyes appeared between my closed eyes.

“Merson?”

He said something, but I didn’t hear it. Like a video being cut off, my whole world turned black.
