Chapter 39 – You’d Be Executed If This Was The Old Days (3)

“It’s so unbelievable that someone as pretty as you would have so much on your mind. But no worries, desserts can cure it all.” The man pushed the desserts that the store clerk brought over in front of Yu Duo, “Why don’t you give this macaroon a try and have a sip of this black tea. Trust me, they would melt away any troubling thoughts that you may have.”

The Frenchman’s look made Yu Duo smile. She took a bite of the macaroon and a sip of the black tea to clear her palate of the sweetness.

Oddly, the unpleasant feeling that was in her chest earlier subsided quite a bit.

Almost as though it was exactly what the Frenchman had said, her taste buds had cheered her up.

“Mmm, that is quite good.”

“It’s my pleasure to be able to cheer up someone like you.” The man looked at her wedding ring on her ring finger, “It looks like some lucky man had already claimed you.”

Yu Duo followed his line of sight to her own ring. Tightening her fist a little, she said, “My husband has…. Passed away.”

The man paused for a bit and said in a regretful voice, “I am so sorry to hear that. But I trust that the man of your choice must be a wonderful person. May the lord bless him.”

Yu Duo smiled and didn’t say anything else.

“My name is Alex. May I have the honor to know your name?”

Yu Duo smiled, “My name is Yu Duo.”

“Yu Duo? I don’t think I will ever forget this beautiful name for the rest of my life.”

Frenchmen were known for being romantic and funny. Yu Duo and Alex enjoyed their conversation. Alex was very humorous with an unlimited amount of topics to talk about. He was a master conversationalist that never made Yu Duo felt awkward or offended. Yu Duo had a smile on her the entire time, and all her earlier sadness was nowhere to be seen.

Fu Sinian stood to one side and looked at the two in a sinister way; his molars about to be grinded to dust.

How could he think that this woman had a shred of conscience in her?

By the looks of it, it was all gone the minute she saw the handsome man!

Did this Yu Duo have any awareness that her husband had just died?

Flirting with another man right after her husband passed away, if this was in the old days, she’d be executed!

“Hi Miss, I have wrapped up your purse for you. The total comes to $11,200.” The store clerk walked up to Yu Duo and handed her the purse that was now wrapped.

“You have good taste, Miss. This is the newest design this year and blue is perfect for you. I wonder if I might have the honor to buy this for you?”

Fu Sinian narrowed his eyes. It was easy for him to keep his emotions hidden, but the anger burning in his eyes was slowly but surely becoming uncontrollable. Luckily, nobody else could see him right now.

Yu Duo smiled and pulled out her wallet and handed her card over to the store clerk, “Thank you for your generous offer, but I can afford this purse myself.”

The man did not insist.

The store clerk gave Yu Duo’s card back to her.

“Thank you for letting me spent the last very enjoyable 10 minutes with you. Pardon me for asking, may I have the honor to take you to dinner?”

One night stand?

Yu Duo raised her brows, smiled, and said, “I would love to have dinner with a handsome man such as yourself as well, but I’m afraid I won’t have the time. My apologies.”

“Ah, that is too bad,” said the man as he handed a card over to Yu Duo. “This is my business card, perhaps we can be friends?”

Yu Duo smiled as she put the card away, “Perhaps I will see you around.”

She must say that a handsome man was more than just eye-candy, he was also pleasant to converse with.

Yu Duo was humming when she got back to her hotel. She took a closer look at the man’s business card. He was upper management of some corporation, a quite well-known one at that.

Young, handsome, and wealthy, an almost perfect Frenchman.

She could appreciate him, but he wasn’t her type.

The doorbell rang and Yu Duo casually put the card on top of the table and went to open the door.

A gust of wind came from nowhere and blew the business card underneath the bed. The card wasn’t seen again.
