Chapter 1869 Throw Your Own Guilt Upon Me

Name:The Substitute Bride Author:Mi Lu
In Dream Garden. If Sheryl and Nancy weren't there, Leila wouldn't have taken Melissa to the hospital. During the operation, Leila kept wondering what she was going to do if Melissa survived the surgery.

She quivered in fear at the mere thought of Melissa waking up and accusing her of murder.

The entire two hours that Melissa was in surgery, Leila just worried. When she was told that Melissa was possibly going to become a vegetable, she heaved a sigh of relief. This was the best news she had received in a long while.

Sheryl sat beside Melissa's bed with a blank look on her face. She didn't know what to make of this whole situation. Melissa, who was normally arrogant around her, was now a vegetable. Suddenly, she felt her heartbroken. While they didn't have a good relationship, Melissa was still Charles' mother and her kids' grandmother. She couldn't help but be emotional.

"Leila, if something happens to Melissa, Charles won't ever let you get away with this." As she thought of what Leila had done, she decided Leila didn't deserve any mercy from her.

"Sheryl, you're just projecting your guilt on me. You're the one who pushed Aunt Melissa down the stairs. Why are you putting the blame on me?" Leila acted as if she was the victim.

In the doctor's office

"Doctor, is there anything we can do to wake my mother up?" Charles didn't know what to do. He couldn't let this happen to Melissa. She'd been through so much, and he didn't want her to suffer anymore.

The doctor frowned as he raised his hand to rest his chin on it for support. After a pause, he then responded slowly, "Mr. Lu, there's nothing to worry about yet. The patient's stable for now. We'll check on her again in a few days to see if she'll wake up."

Charles figured the doctor had nothing else to say to him, so he bowed and said thanks before leaving for Melissa's room.

In Melissa's room

mother..." Leila feared that Charles wouldn't believe her, so she grabbed his arm and started begging.

Charles and Sheryl exchanged helpless glances. Only Leila was talking now.

When Sheryl imagined her first meeting with Charles again, she'd expected it to be happy, almost like a fairy tale even. She was more than wrong. Right now, it didn't even look like Charles trusted her at all.

As she thought of this, tears tumbled down onto her cheeks.

"You don't believe me?"

"How can I believe you?" Charles stiffened. He looked at Sheryl coldly.

Sheryl chuckled in response. It was a bitter laugh that was unpleasant to hear.

Charles saw the look on Sheryl's face, and something flashed across his eyes, but it was gone as soon as it came. No one even noticed it.

"Enough. I don't want to see you. Get out of here now!" Charles said. He wanted Sheryl to leave.

Sheryl didn't expect this from Charles. She stood motionlessly, unsure what to do.

When Leila heard this, she started to push Sheryl out of the room.

"Ah..."

"What's wrong?"

Cassie was just passing by. When Leila pushed Sheryl out, Sheryl bumped into Cassie. Cassie frowned and looked at the person who bumped into her. She was surprised to find that it was Sheryl.
