Chapter 97 - The Whole Story

“I shall wait for your husband to come to my house.”

Lin Yunxu flicked his sleeves and went out the door, taking big strides back to the courtyard. When Dingli saw him coming back, he immediately handed over a handful of beans that he had just stolen. “They didn’t have much left, so I didn’t dare to take more, I wrapped them.”

“I’ve never seen this thing before. You’re very knowledgeable. Now that you’ve talked to her, do you have any idea what this is?”

Lin Yunxu lowered his head and looked at the yellow and round thing in his palm. He racked his brain but could not think of where he had seen this thing before.

He tested the hardness of the soybean and then bit it open with his teeth.

“This thing can be ground into juice with the stones in his courtyard, but what method did they use to turn the juice into pieces of tofu?”

“I’ve tried the tofu. It’s soft when you eat it, but it doesn’t break easily when picked up with chopsticks. To make tofu, one is to use these beans of unknown origin, and the other is to figure out the secret of the juice turning into tofu.

“It’s a pity that there’s someone in their courtyard today. We can’t sneak into the roof to see what they’re doing.

“Dingli, take this thing to Shang first. When you come back, keep a close eye on the movements next door.”

Night fell.

Zhao Zhan had recently reserved Lizheng’s ox cart.

Every morning, he would bring Li Miao from Willow Village, then bring her back at night.

He sent Li Miao off with the basket on his back. When he opened the courtyard door, a petite person jumped into his arms.

“Zhao Zhan, did you bring Chengfeng?”

During the day, there were too many people, so Zhao Zhan couldn’t carry Chengfeng down the mountain, so he put him in a basket in the middle of the night.

“I’ve brought him back.” Zhao Zhan untied the basket and placed Chengfeng on the ground.

The tiny cub’s limbs were still soft and weak.

Yue Jiaojiao’s heart was about to melt from the cuteness.

“How could this little fellow possibly go hunting with you now? He probably can’t even catch up to a rabbit.” Yue Jiaojiao squatted down and hugged Chengfeng in her arms, her eyes not willing to move away from him. “You won’t be here during the day, so what should I feed him with?”

“I’ll prepare some food. You don’t have to worry about it.”

Zhao Zhan looked at Yue Jiaojiao with wide eyes.

He hadn’t seen her the entire day. On the way back, he anxiously pushed Lizheng to the ox cart and he personally drove the ox cart back.

The whip in the middle was swung too hard, and Lizheng couldn’t help but nag at him.

However, looking at her holding Chengfeng made all the nagging worth it.

He also wanted to be hugged by her!

Sensing that there was something wrong with Zhao Zhan’s tone, Yue Jiaojiao looked at him in a distracted manner.

When she realized that this person was as aggrieved, Yue Jiaojiao’s expression turbed mischievous. She deliberately turned her back to Zhao Zhan and asked, “Chengfeng, are you hungry? I’ll personally cook you some ricey soup, okay?”

The sound of ger voice was like honey.

She coaxed Chengfeng with a soft and sweet voice.

Seeing that she had no intention of paying attention to him, Zhao Zhan’s hands, which were hanging by his sides, dropped lower. He mustered up his courage, walked over, and hugged her from behind.

As their bodies touched, Zhao Zhan let out a satisfied sigh.

The silly hunter had become bold. Yue Jiaojiao couldn’t help but laugh. She allowed him to hug her without moving. She asked with concern, “Zhao Zhan, you’ve been busy all day. Aren’t you tired?”

“I’m not tired,” Zhao Zhan said softly with his eyes closed as he hugged her tightly. “I’m not tired at all just thinking about how we’ll be able to move in soon.”

“If you’re not tired… I’ll find someone for you to play with.”
