Chapter 74 - The Truth

Zhao Kuazi avoided eye contact and lay back down, pretending to be dead.

“Stop pretending. There were a lot of people at your door when we came in. They must have heard us!” Yue Jiaojiao leaned against Zhao Zhan and said in a light voice, “If you don’t want anyone to know, then you shouldn’t have done it in the first place. We’ve already gone up the mountain to take a look at the situation.”

As she spoke, she fiddled with her fingers with a serious look on her face. “Let me calculate how many things that were missing from our cave are worth.”

“Zhao Zhan,” Yue Jiaojiao’s voice was sweet and soft. “How much were those things you bought for me worth?”

“Forget it! I didn’t touch your things! I didn’t even go in!” Zhao Kuazi couldn’t hold it in any longer and sat up. She looked at Yue Jiaojiao with anger and fear in her eyes. “That tiger was wandering around the entrance of the cave. How would I know what it was planning to do?”

Zhao Zhan looked at her coldly. “Was the tiger injured?”

“It was blind in one eye.” Zhao Kuazi didn’t dare to meet his eyes. She avoided his gaze and forced herself to be imposing. “That tiger was so scary! Why would I stop to stare at it!”

Her reaction exposed everything.

Zhao Zhan didn’t ask any more questions. He held Yue Jiaojiao’s hand and walked to the door. Then, without turning his head, he said, “You’d better hope that it won’t come to you at night.”

After he finished speaking, he immediately dragged Yue Jiaojiao to find Lizheng.

Yang Lizheng waved his hand happily when he saw him. “Come and see if there are enough people. I’ll leave the night watch to you. Please protect the people in our village.”

Yang Lizheng gathered a total of 11 people, and Yang Dashan was among them.

“Five in a group.” Zhao Zhan pointed to the middle and divided the 11 people into two groups. “You guys patrol the village. Dashan and I will go to the foot of the mountain to guard it.”

The foot of the mountain was the most dangerous place. Others were relieved to hear that.

The most dangerous place was guarded by Zhao Zhan, the hunter, so they were not as worried as before now.

After the patrol was settled, Zhao Zhan brought Yue Jiaojiao back to the thatched house.

He had just returned to the village and immediately encountered this matter. Before this happened he had many things to do. He had to arrange the accommodation for Fang Tianliu and Master Sun. Manager Li of Wangshan Town was still waiting for him to send food over. He had to manage the bricks and limestone slabs from Huai County that would be sent over the day after tomorrow. When he officially starts work the day after tomorrow, he still had to take care of two meals for the helpers.

He had originally planned to go up the mountain to hunt when his lover was asleep after returning to the village. This way, he would not need to buy extra meat and could save some money.

Zhao Zhan thought as he walked. There were too many things to handle, and he had to sort them out one by one.

He was lost in his thoughts that he didn’t realize his lover suddenly standing still, he immediately turned around in shock.

Yue Jiaojiao was standing a step behind him, her hand still tightly held in Zhao Zhan’s palm.

“Does your foot hurt?” Zhao Zhan worriedly walked to his lover and subconsciously wanted to squat down.

“Zhao Zhan,” Yue Jiaojiao looked at him with a pair of watery eyes, then frowned and lowered her eyes pitifully, “I called you once, but you ignored me.”

She was a really pampered person.

Yue Jiaojiao wanted to complain to Zhao Zhan. So she stretched out her slender fingers and poked his chest. “Do I not exist here anymore?” she asked.

Zhao Zhan was flustered.

He subconsciously lifted Yue Jiaojiao up and said obediently, “I won’t ignore you ever again. I won’t ignore your voice when I’m thinking about something.”
