Chapter 40 - Romance Killer (1)

Zhang Yuanjia sacrificed his naptime to learn more about his father so when he left the house with his unconscientious mother, his limpid eyes were beet red as he struggled to keep them open.

Yan Shuyu, who was used to her lively instant son, oddly felt that her heart ached from seeing him the way he was right now.

But, as much as her heart ached, she couldn’t leave him home by himself for half a day. Just three days ago, there was an accident in their neighborhood. A young kid was left home alone, and somehow managed to climb out the window. Luckily, she didn’t live on a high floor plus she was noticed right away; she was caught by some good neighbors with a blanket with just a few scratches.

The incident, however, alarmed all the parents nearby.

Now that she’s an instant mother, she must be responsible. Even Yan Shuyu was a bit anxious after hearing the story. Even though the original owner used to leave the son home by himself before, it would only be a minor convenience to her to bring her son to work. And, she had her boss’s blessing to do so, so why not?

Naturally, Yan Shuyu understood that she couldn’t take him with her everywhere she went. There would be times when she couldn’t, but she would cross that bridge when she comes to it. Maybe, one day, she would be okay with it….

Thinking about that, she picked up her instant son and negotiated with him, “Are you really tired? Yang ge ge’s office has a couch, you can take a nap on the couch later. Okay?”

Zhang Yuanjia nodded like a mature kid that he was. He wrapped his little arms around her neck and rested his head on her shoulder for a while. After they walked out of the elevator, he said voluntarily, “Mom, you can put me down. I can walk.”

Yan Shuyu’s arms were getting tired, so she put him down right away and the two walked to her work place holding hands.

Her late husband’s story was but a small side story, Yan Shuyu had forgotten all about it after she told it to the little kiddo. Running into male lead’s father at Hotel Dorsett was also another small side story that wasn’t worth mentioning. The combined effect between the original owner’s late husband and her future husband didn’t rival that of the $9,000 in her bank.

Becoming a rich woman instantly, Yan Shuyu was basking in the happiness of money-counting.

She was an optimist by nature. Back when she only had $200, she was still confident in living and messing around with her new colleagues every day, now that she has money and a fun job, she was even happier and she passed her days in a very fulfilling way.

Perhaps, because she had been too happy that one day, tragedy came to her.

It was about 3 PM in the afternoon on a weekday. There weren’t a lot of customers in the shop and all the colleagues were taking turns going on breaks. Yan Shuyu and the vice supervisor were also playing RPG on their phones in the manager’s office. Manager Yang was a noob, every time they went into a dungeon, he relied a lot on them.

And, since the boss was playing games, Yan Shuyu could play to her heart’s content.

Right when they were on a roll, a colleague from the front called out to Yan Shuyu, “Yan-jie, your side business is here!”

The shop has a set performance time of 7 PM previously because they hired a part-timer, now that Yan Shuyu was here, not only could they maintain their regular performance time, they could further fulfill customer’s ad hoc requests, as these requests would be charged separately. Manager Yang generously told Yan Shuyu that these additional incomes would be all hers; and that the shop would not take a cut.

That was why performances outside of the regular scheduled slot was a side business for Yan Shuyu. Even though she didn’t need money as much as she did before, she had fallen in love with the joy of making money. When she heard the call from her colleague, she immediately put down her phone, tidied herself up, and confidently walked to the front to earn her moola.
