199 Small Talk

The next day, Jing Yan had a meeting to attend to at the company. Before he left, he went to look for He Miao and told her to wait for him at home.

He Miao nodded with drowsy eyes, but she only woke up with a quiver when Jing Yan suddenly held her cheek and kissed her.

She could not fall asleep even if she wanted to. She thought of Li Feng, whom she had met yesterday, and decided to meet him and persuade him to go back. If he wanted to stay, she could arrange a job for him.

After washing up and putting on her clothes, He Miao walked out of the neighborhood and into the hotel that she had directed him to the day before. She sat on the sofa by the entrance and waited for him.

She knew that he had come all the way to look for her and would definitely leave. She could only blame herself for being in a hurry to buy groceries yesterday and forgetting to leave her contact information.

Fortunately, He Miao did not have to wait long before she saw Li Feng walking down the stairs. She stood up and smiled. “Are you used to being here?”

“It’s alright. It’s much better than our hometown.” After Li Feng said that, he suddenly remembered that He Miao was from the city, and she probably would not want to mention her experience of being abandoned when she was young. He quickly covered his mouth and apologized, “I’m sorry, Miaomiao. Don’t take it to heart. I didn’t mean to make you sad.”

“It’s fine. It’s all in the past.” To He Miao, this was a brand new life for her. She did not care if others knew about her pitiful childhood that was abandoned.

Seeing that she was not upset, Li Feng was relieved and asked, “Are you still in school?”

“Yes, I’m in university now. I’ll take you to a nearby place to eat. Let’s sit down and talk.” He Miao suggested politely, keeping an appropriate distance from him.

“Alright.” Naturally, Li Feng listened to He Miao’s arrangement. He happily took a step back, subconsciously keeping a distance from her.

Even though he was uneducated and uncultured, he could still understand the gap between him and He Miao. He actually regretted coming to disturb He Miao, but he could not help but want to see her more. Perhaps after this, they would never see each other again.

He Miao did not notice the disappointment in his eyes. He led him into a congee shop and ordered a few plain congee and side dishes. “If there’s anything else you want to eat, go get it yourself. I’ll pay later.”

“No need, no need,” Li Feng waved his hand and refused, “I can’t let you pay. Let me do it. My family has sold a lot of food this year and made some money. You don’t have to save for me. As long as I can see you and sit down to eat with you, I’m already very satisfied.”

Li Feng. He Miao knew that the original owner of this body was an honest person, so she did not want to make things difficult for him. Instead, she chose to patiently guide him. “Can you tell me who brought you here? This is very important to me.”

Li Feng did not expect her to be so hung up on this question. He guiltily lowered his head to eat his porridge. When he realized that He Miao was still waiting for his answer, he shook his head and said, “I really came here on my own. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have come.”

“Don’t say that.” He Miao smiled helplessly. Based on her initial understanding of this person, she had decisively ruled out the possibility that He Wei had promised him some benefits. Then, there was only one answer left—He Wei had threatened him, and it was related to her.

After sorting out her thoughts, He Miao calmly drank a bowl of sweet porridge and said with a faint smile, “You might not know this, but I’m about to start my own company. If you want to stay, I can arrange for you to work at the ground level, but it’ll be a little hard. I don’t know if you’re willing.”

Li Feng almost choked on the hot porridge in his mouth. He looked up at her in disbelief. “Are you serious?”

She was actually willing to let him stay! She did not despise him!

This realization made his depressed heart suddenly jump for joy.

He Miao nodded lightly. “Why would I lie to you? Don’t you believe me?”

“I believe you.” Li Feng kept nodding like a chicken pecking at rice, and the corners of his mouth were so happy that they almost reached his ears.

He Miao guessed that she might have dispelled his hesitation, so she suddenly changed the topic and asked, “So, can you tell me who brought you here?”

“Miaomiao.” Li Feng put down his spoon with a troubled expression. “I really can’t tell. I promised her.”

“Who did you promise? He Wei?” He Miao’s eyes were fixed as he said the name.

Li Feng was obviously shocked by her guess. The simple and honest young man was not good at lying, and he wore his heart on a sleeve.

Seeing that he was getting more and more embarrassed after being exposed, He Miao suddenly pulled a long face and said seriously, “Maybe you don’t know, but He Wei has always wanted to get rid of me. She went through so much trouble to get you here to deal with me.”

Li Feng’s eyes widened in disbelief, and his heart was beating fast. “Miaomiao, what are you talking about?”

He Miao had no intention of hiding it from him. Even though he was an innocent person who had been dragged into this, he had to know what had happened between her and He Wei since he was likely to stay by her side in the future. This was to prevent him from being used as a tool in the future.
