Chapter 49 - Where Is Javier?!

His words were confusing and didn't make any sense to her. But at the same time, the loud commotion was heard from a certain distance, away from the island. The two of them averted their eyes in the same direction to see the helicopter up in the sky.

'Wait, didn't Ellen said that there is a spare jet for us...in case of emergency?' she remembered his words correctly and understood the noise that was coming.

But still, she looked at Javier with a questionable look in her eyes, "Swim? But to where?" was all that she asked but before anything could have left his mouth, the gunshots were once again heard from their back.

"Sh*t!!! They have caught us really soon!" Jennifer exclaimed that when she saw the noise of bullets getting clearer. It was evident that the people near them were progressing and coming in their direction.

Javier didn't say anything further and all he did was to hold her hand tightly, to bring her a little bit in the water. Jennifer didn't revolt as well and they both ran in the water until it was impossible for them to run and walk in the sea, as the water was reaching above their legs.

But in the middle, Javier left her hand and Jennifer too stopped at his sudden leave. "What are you doing? They are literally close and coming towards us! Come, we have to run fast!"

"You run first. I'm pretty much sure that if we both try to run, we won't succeed. You run, I will give you cover." he said while bringing out one of his guns from his back and aimed in the direction of the forest which was behind them.

"No!" Jenifer instantly denied and held his shoulders tightly, "You too are coming with me! I Don't have much space-"

She was interrupted in the middle when Javier pulled his shoulder away from her grasp, to shake his head. He took a few steps back, with himself in reward to face those criminals. "Don't worry about me. I can reach up to you very soon. Go, Jennifer. It is important for you to survive this situation."

"Never! I'm not going! Otherwise, we both can just die at this point." she declared, it was a simple no in her words for her to leave him like this. His people must be worried about him, not about her. Yet, he wished to secure her, not himself. Why?

But her heart won't let that happen. She can't let him stay behind because she does know that it will only add more risk, but herself standing here as well, will probably give him another liability.

When Javier saw that Jennifer was acting stubborn, a sigh escaped him. He angrily ruffled his hair slightly with the tip of his fingers and cupped her face into his hand, with gentleness, "Jennifer I know how to manage these types of situations, I told you that."

"I will come to you and we will leave this place together, for now just go and swim to the end until there you see a large net or any ladder, down to climb up. Your swimming speed must be slow as compared to what I have. Unlike me, you can't hold your breath for long, so go for my peace. Please."

His eyes exerted fear and anxiousness. She can see how much he craved to her go, but it wasn't easy for her heart to see him in such a state. The noise of guns was getting closer, she knew that they were coming but her heart was constantly paining.

"Do you promise to come back?" she asked, almost in the most innocent voice which was mixed with the tangent of the tears.

"Absolutely. I can't leave you alone for long. Just go and swim now and let me do my work." was all that he said before he stepped back from her and showed her back to him.

Holding her tears in the back of her mind, Jennifer too took the dip in the water and started swimming with all the courage. Her hands were moving in the fore direction meanwhile her legs falling back. Screams are consecutive heard from her back, she knew that must be screaming the hell out of their wit, with the shots being poured and fired out of the people's gun.

At the same time, she was praying that mostly all the guns are fired from Javier's pistol... and not the other way around.

But with the strong determination and to fulfill the promise which she made to Javier, Jennifer didn't turn back even once! To control her emotions, she kept on swimming, until came a helicopter above the sea in front of her eyes. A ladder was put down, which was made of ropes and Ryan signaled her to climb up.

Due to the heaviness of the clothes she wore, it was difficult to suddenly climb the rope with her wet clothes and water filled in them. Her body weight increased but with the leftover strength, she held the ladder in her hands and took steps, slowly yet steadily to go up in the helicopter for once.

She made sure to take some time to reach but not to fail because, if she missed and slips down once again and land in the water, it will be a heck difficult to climb up from the start.

After few minutes, finally, she came on the last step and Ryan offered his hand, "Take it Miss Jennifer and come up!" she did as he said. Holding His hand, Jennifer finally landed on the helicopter, almost out of her breath.

Her whole face was red due to the exhaustion and water dripping out of her clothes, hair, and everything. It wasn't easy to swim with panic in her mind.

"You did a great job, Miss Jenifer. You swam well." She received a compliment from Ryan's side. He then offered her the towel to dap and cover herself, to avoid any infection but she just flipped it away.

Instead, she looked at Ellen, who was handling the helicopter, and asked him with her eager eyes...

"Where is Javier? Has he made it?"
