Chapter 205 - The Killing in Wonderland on Earth

SU slightly opened her mouth in surprise, and Long Xi took the opportunity to put her open palm into her hand, clasped their fingers, and said to her, “SU, you stole my heart!”

SU’s face became flushed in a flash, and she dared not look at TI. She kept fanning her hot face with one hand.

Long Xi also stopped before going too far, and released SU’s little hand. She smiled and said, “I give you my heart! By the way, I will sing a song for you! It is a song I created!”

SU looked at her curiously. She didn’t expect that such a homeless stray would be so fun!

Long Xi sang shamelessly, “String your heart and my heart into a lucky grass and a concentric circle; let all the calls that look forward to the future be a companion while you’re young…”

Anyway, there was no such song on Planet BI, so why not say it’s was her own creation? And according to the memory of the original owner, SU liked listening to music.

However, people on Planet BT preferred scientific and technological inventions, paying little attention to music and art, which left SU to only listen to the several main melodies. That love song by Long Xi had just hit the softest part of SU’s heart, which was the first awakening of love.

Her affection for TI soared with Long Xi’s singing!

An hour later, the aircraft landed in the Deep Ice Snowfield, the far northernmost area of Planet BT.

SU awakened Mo Kun, and they wore full sets of cold protection and ice walking equipment, including a cold protection mask, an assault suit, hiking shoes and ice claws. Each of them held a searchlight.

Together they stepped out of the aircraft and set foot on the land of Deep Ice Snowfield.

The outside world was really cold and barren. When they went out, it felt as if they had fallen into an ice cellar.

Seeing the Deep Ice Snowfield full of glaciers, Long Xi felt as if she had gone to the North Pole on earth. The two were really so similar!

It should have been daytime by then, but the sky was dark; just like the eternal night in the Arctic!

With the strong illumination of the searchlights, they could see the magical land under their feet.

How should they describe that land? All languages in the world were so pale and poor in front of the masterpieces of nature.

The Deep Ice Snowfield in winter was a beautiful, unique but cold wonderland.

The north wind was piercingly cold and a profound silence prevailed overall.

Usually, the Deep Ice Snowfield would enter a long, permanent night from November until February of the following year.

The sun would not rise on the horizon. The stars were twinkling in the dark sky. Looking up, one could see the Big Dipper stars. They were rotating around the Deep Ice Snowfield star.

A crescent moon revolved around the sky. It displayed colorful lunar halos in the transparent air, looking like a moon-shaped flying saucer.

The endless vast glaciers were solemn, mysterious and atmospheric, which were just like a white giant. The cracks in the road formed by the advancing glaciers were like the waves in the torrent, which reminded people of the sentence “Mighty waves beating the shore, rolling up a thousand piles of snow”. It naturally made people be in awe of nature.

Between the undulating ice peaks, the liquefied flowing ice formed a melting pool to absorb light scattering on the glacier, which was as crystal clear as sapphire, and as clear and pure as blue eyes.

Because they were wearing ice claws, although their movements were a little clumsy, they could firmly grasp the ice surface without slipping.

Long Xi reminded Mo Kun and SU, “Be mindful to avoid those ice-melting pools. It would be dangerous to sink in or fall down.”

SU nodded gratefully.

Mo Kun said with a smile, “I see! Did you forget that we once caught the ice fox together?”

They walked slowly on the ice.

In the distance, a snow-white bird that looked like a chicken but did not have a crown, held its head up. It walked on the snow arrogantly with a beautiful posture, having a sense of remaining aloof from the world.

Some looked like gentlemen with black tops, and like wearing woolen hats. Their beaks and feet were bright red. The feathers on the top of their bodies were gray-white. The feathers on the bottom of their bodies were black, just like wearing tuxedos.

Long Xi saw that SU had been watching the birds, and seemed to be very interested. She felt that it was a good opportunity to show off, so she sorted out her thoughts and talked bluntly, “Those are thunderbirds, not migratory birds, and they’re the most important birds in the Deep Ice Snowfield. Not only their bodies are completely covered with thick feathers, but also their nostrils are covered with feathers. Their legs, claws and even the soles of their feet are also covered with feathers, as if wearing thick down boots. It is warm they won’t easily fall into the snow and ice; they are especially suitable for walking on the snow.” SU smiled and said, “You know a lot!”

Long Xi won SU’s praise, then immediately followed by ‘showing off,’ “They can gallop on the snow and fly, but not far away. If you come here in the summer, you’ll see terns which have no hairs on their calves and claws, but they practice dual body temperature. That is, the temperature below the calves is only about 0 ℃.”

SU was fascinated. He was indeed a genius scientist of the Deep Ice Snowfield. He knew so much, and had a superb memory, even remembering the data so clearly!

She had always liked knowledgeable boys. When she saw TI before, she somewhat disliked him. At the moment, she thought TI was actually pretty handsome! Especially the pair of long and narrow attractive eyes, and that bright smile which revealed eight snow-white teeth; quite enchanting. He also had a silver tongue, which was very coaxing!

Mo Kun said, “I know of this. I used to study terns. The temperature below its calves would only be at about 0 ℃! It’s much lower than the rest of the body, almost by 40℃. 40℃, what’s that concept? Not only does it reduce heat emissions, but they don’t feel particularly cold when they stand on ice and snow. The same is true for reindeer, whose leg temperature is about 10 ℃ lower than the normal temperature, which not only reduces heat emissions, but also protects the leg from frostbite. They have now left, heading to Antarctica for the winter.”

Long Xi said, “This is my favorite migratory bird in the Deep Ice Snowfield.”

While they were intoxicated with such tranquility and beauty, the glaciers in the distance suddenly made a loud noise. A huge piece of ice burst from the glacier, then fell into the ocean abyss, becoming a floating iceberg.

It seemed to warn humans: stop global warming, and stop hurting them. Otherwise, one day, you will suffer the consequences.

All sorts of feelings welled up in their minds. They were silent. In the face of nature, human beings had always been so tiny!

Suddenly, SU let out a scream.

It turned out that she found an ice fox in the distance and cried excitedly.

The ice fox looked at them alertly, but did not run away.

Its white fur wasn’t mottled. Its fur color would change with the seasons. In winter, it would turn white, making it difficult for natural enemies and prey to detect its existence.

The fluff on the top of the ice fox was also one of the medicinal materials needed by Mo Kun, but he had already obtained it along with TI’s help.

Looking at her excited and inexplicable appearance, Long Xi couldn’t help laughing and said, “Getting excited over a little thing! You’re green and inexperienced. Why are you so excited about seeing an ice fox here? This is the ice fox’s habitat!”

SU was debunked by Long Xi, but she wasn’t angered by it and only found things quite interesting.

With the memory of the original owner who had lived in the Deep Ice Snowfield since he was a child, Long Xi quickly found the cave of ice bears with Mo Kun and SU.

They found two bloody ice bear cubs and a female ice bear that had been peeled in the cave. Those two cubs were bald, with no hair and they didn’t open their eyes. They should have been newly born.

The blood on their pink and tender skins stained Long Xi’s clothes red, but she didn’t seem to care. She carefully held the two cubs, full of love in her eyes.

SU was touched by her eyes and asked softly, “Are they hurt?”

Long Xi said, “The blood belongs to the ice bear mother. They’re not injured. They’re newborn ice bear cubs. However, their mother is dead, and it seems that she was killed in the cave, only leaving flesh and bones. The whole skin was completely peeled off by hunters. Hunters only want its expensive skin, not the meat! Female ice bears will find a cave to hibernate and give birth. This is their habit. Newborn bears depend on their mothers’ milk, with a fat content as high as 30% or more. A baby bear cannot survive in the wild without its mother, and the smell of her carcass will soon attract carrion eaters. They will eat the baby bears while they’re at it. Or the baby bears will freeze or starve to death. They are very weak. I need to send them to the incubator right away to control the temperature and humidity. By the way, SU, you studied medicine, didn’t you? Can you help me?”

SU was, of course, happy to help. She bent her arm at an appropriate angle, and Long Xi placed a cub in her arms.

That was a bear cub whose signs of life were almost gone. It only had weak breath and no body temperature.

The situation was too critical!

Long Xi had forgotten that she was looking for bear bile, and she wanted to save the two little ice bears. Perhaps women were born a maternal love instinct, right?

Even Mo Kun said, “It’s important to save the bears! Every creature has a soul. All lives are equal and worth cherishing!”

Long Xi and SU took the baby bear back to the biological laboratory of the aircraft, and rescued the baby ice bears as they did with the tiger cub.

Unfortunately, because the rescue was not timely and effective, both ice bear cubs died.

Long Xi and SU were both very sad.

Mo Kun said quietly, “The environmental pollution problem has led to global warming on Planet BT, melting a large amount of ice in the Deep Ice Snowfield, endangering ice bears that habitually lived on ice. Excessive hunting by humans is also one of the culprits. Humans are too cruel, only hunting them for their precious fur… I personally think this was not done by the locals. They know the truth behind ‘killing the goose that lays the golden eggs,’ and generally would not hunt them when female ice bears are pregnant…”
