Perhaps it was the alcohol or the rays of moonlight skimmed over her gleaming hair and milky skin, but Jay found his desire out of control. His movements were careful, exercising self-restraint to keep his weight from her body, not wanting to hurt the fetus in her abdomen in any way. He was gentle yet

aggressive.

She was flushed, her skin fiery pink from the heat, and shivers pulsed through her. Just before Jay could pull her clothes off her, she stopped him before he got any further by gripping his wandering hands. “We can’t. The baby…”

Jay didn’t take up her suggestion, and his warm hands continued roaming over her skin. Maisy was no match against him, and soon, he tore down every last of her defenses, reaching the very core of her.

The next day, Maisy woke up earlier than Jay did. She found him fast asleep lying next to her in bed. A curious thought crossed her mind, and she reached her hand to poke his cheeks. When the man was deep in slumber, all of his distant and aloof demeanor was gone. He looked peaceful in his sleep, his

sharp features a lot more blunt than usual.

Her thoughts jumped from admiring his face to the night before. She couldn’t figure out why he chose to be intimate with her even after she had already fulfilled the terms of their contract. She thought they were on the same page since he had acted so indifferently after knowing she was pregnant. Why

did he still sleep with her?

The questions kept circling her mind until her brain overloaded. She sighed and gave up.

It was a rare sight that Jay would be home, free from his work obligations. So the couple had decided to visit Maisy’s grandfather together. At first, she was against the idea because she didn’t want her grandpa involved in her complicated agreement. But the way he stood his ground with sheer

determination across his face made her back off from the argument. In expressing his sentiment, he brought bags of gifts along to her grandpa’s.

Eyes wide and mouth agape, it hit her that Grandpa Michael didn’t know about Jay’s engagement. He wouldn’t have asked her that question if he had seen the news coverage with Jay’s picture on it on TV.

“Uh…n-

Jay cut her off by holding onto her hand. He dragged a stool with his other hand and sat next to her. He tried to appear friendly by smiling. “Yes, sir. I’m Maisy’s boyfriend.”

Grandpa Michael returned another pleasant smile. His gaze had never left the two as he studied their interaction. The longer he looked, the more he thought Jay was the one for his granddaughter. Grandpa Michael had always been proud of Maisy and her achievements, and he was always confident that

she was the best kid he had ever known. To him, it was the matter of whether the gentlemen deserved her but never the other way round.

“It looks like Maisy’s got a good eye,” Grandpa Michael complimented. He couldn’t hold back his contentment because it had all reflected on the wide beam on his face.

Always meticulous in his business dealings which he had been doing for years, Jay’s slick negotiation skills would easily win over an elder’s heart. Grandpa Michael was so absorbed in Jay’s gobs of flattery that he couldn’t keep his lips tight, and he even forgot Maisy was sitting right next to Jay.

Maisy was happy to see Grandpa Michael happy. What she had wanted for him all along was him spending the rest of his remaining life in joy and peace. On the other side of the same coin, it tore her to choose if her situation was bliss or a curse. Because at the end of the day, she and Jay were ina

play-pretend and a superficial relationship. They were everything but a couple madly in love. Some day, the lie would catch up to them..
