Elder Guan averted his gaze. “I don’t think I’ve seen that girl around before,” he slowly said.

Yao Rong chuckled, waving his hand in reply. “That’s right. She’ll actually be taking her college entrance exam soon,” he said. “She’s extremely talented and smart, and she can hold her ground in just about any situation.”

Hearing that she’d be taking her college entrance exam soon, the man nodded and averted his gaze. If that girl really was Yao Tang, she wouldn’t be taking the college entrance exam.

After all, she could go to any university she wanted without having to pass any entrance exam.

Only then did he come back to his senses. “She seems to have quite a promising future ahead of her.”

Even then, he still had his doubts.

Yao Rong was even more delighted to hear his praise. “She’s actually my youngest daughter,” he said with a smile. “Thank you!”

“That’s your daughter?”

He could’ve just said it earlier!

From what he was saying earlier, he had assumed Yao Rong was praising someone else’s child. Suppressing the urge to shake his head, he glanced up at him.

“Of course!” Yao Rong’s face was practically shining with pride. Suddenly, he remembered the chess set she had gifted him last night. “Come in! I’ll show you the jade chess set my daughter had gifted me.”

As he invited Elder Guan into the house, he sighed and shook his head.

“Ah, my child is just too sweet. I really don’t know what to do.”

He could tell how proud Yao Rong was of her.

Who would’ve thought that his old friend would be so whipped?

However, as soon as he heard of the jade chess set, Elder Guan couldn’t help but feel a pang of heartache. That Yao Tanghad stolen it from him, and he still couldn’t find it!

Cursing silently in his heart, he followed Yao Rong into the small study.

Jiang Wan was stunned to see him enter.

Elder Guan!

She was quite familiar with the man given that they had worked at the same research institute.

She knew that Yao Rong was bringing his friend over. She had just assumed that the old man was ordinary. How was she supposed to know that he was talking about Elder Guanhimself?

She didn’t know that he loved to play chess.

The man was stunned to see her. He naturally also had an impression of her seeing as they both worked at the National Special Research Institute, despite being in different departments.

He didn’t expect that his chess partner actually had a family.

“It’s nice to meet you. I’m Jiang Wan, his wife.” Jiang Wan smiled, extending her hand. Despite having known each other’s identities, they greeted each other and shook their hands.

After this, Elder Guan sat on the sofa and watched as Yao Rongcarefully take out his chess pieces.

A wide smile showed on Yao Rong’s face as he slowly took out the chess pieces one by one. He didn’t even see Elder Guan’s eyes widen in disbelief.

Wasn’t the chess set similar to the one that Yao Tang had stolen?

The old man slowly took the pieces placed on the table and examined them carefully. He flipped them upside down to see a few abrasions at the edges.

It was the same set he had!

He frowned, setting it back on the table.

That was his!

He grabbed his phone and clicked her contact information.

“Hey, did you give my chess set to someone else?”

He paused before sending another message.

“Since you’ve done this, you shouldn’t blame me for being rude. Now that I know where you are, I could find you immediately.”

He sent it out.

However, there were no replies.

Only then did he remember that Yao Tang must’ve blocked him due to the previous incident he had with her. He gripped his phone tighter.

Damn that stupid girl!

He wanted nothing more than to beat her up!

Yao Rong sat at the sidelines, staring as numerous emotions passed through Elder Guan’s features. His fingers twitched. A part of him had thought that the old man would destroy the wooden box. Luckily, he had set the box down gently, and Yao Rongbreathed a sigh of relief.
