Chapter 207 - No Dirt on the Target

Wednesday evening.

The Jiangdong Grouphad booked a large banquet hall in the heart ofCity Afor the conference.

Everything was ready right on time, and now, they only had to wait for the delegates and guests to arrive.

Cheng Wei was sitting in her car, wearing a pair of dark sunglasses over her exquisitely painted face. She sported a smart-casual, white suit that made her look chic and professional.

She was talking to someone on the phone at that moment, visibly upset.

“What did you say? You still haven’t found anything on that person?”

Her nostrils flared as she took a deep breath. Her fist was clenched tightly on her lap.

When the Shadow Leaguehad gone through a system failure, she had opted for another group in the same line of business. It wasn’t as good or renowned as theShadow League, but it was a close second.Cheng Weihad a lot of expectations for them.

What happened, however, was simply a nightmare.

These second-rate hackers had delayed giving her even a single line of information, and now they were telling her that they had nothing to give at all.

.

It was preposterous!

Cheng Wei couldn’t believe that someone as beautiful asYao Tangdidn’t have even a shadow of a controversy trailing behind her.

It just wasn’t possible. That wasn’t how the world worked!

“I don’t care if you didn’t find anything! Your organization accepted my request and made a commitment, so it’s only right that you keep your end of the bargain. I want scandals, rumors, do you hear me? You can make them up for all I care, but you had better give me something!”

Cheng Wei’s angry roar made the chauffeur flinch and glance at her in the rearview mirror.

“Yes, yes, all right,” the man on the other end of the line answered hurriedly. “I understand. Please don’t worry. Our organization will definitely deliver your request before the day ends.”

“That’s more like it!” Cheng Weisnapped before ending the call.

These people had the audacity to demand exorbitant fees when they didn’t even have the skills to back them up.

She let out a short, frustrated scream.

Were there really no competent, reliable investigators left these days?

Cheng Wei turned to the chauffeur and said, “Wait here. I want to see the car the moment I step out of the building, and I want to be taken home immediately. Do I make myself clear?”

“Of course, Miss Cheng,” the man nodded frantically. “Please enjoy yourself. I will be waiting for you here.”

Cheng Wei alighted the car and took off her sunglasses, her furious expression instantly giving way to a bright smile as she walked towards the entrance of the banquet hall.

She held on to her invitation card with thinly-veiled arrogance.

A bunch of people crowded at the door, waiting to be admitted. Five security guards were checking the guests’ invitation cards one by one.

When it was finally Cheng Wei’s turn, she handed her invitation with a grin. The guard nodded in acknowledgment and proceeded with the check.

Just then, an exclamation rang out from somewhere behind her.

“Well, hello! Isn’t that Master Yu Jing’s pupil, MissCheng Wei? She’s the number one in the neurology department, right?”

It came from a man who looked to be in his thirties. He was wearing a suit and a work badge that read: Control Director Liu Liang.

His words naturally attracted the attention of the nearby guests, and they all glanced at Cheng Weiwhile whispering among themselves.

Cheng Wei looked at the man and asked, “And you are?” He seemed vaguely familiar, but she couldn’t recall having met this person.

Liu Liang let out a jovial laugh. “You may not recognize me. I saw you from afar during one of the parties held by theCheng family. You were so dazzling that I couldn’t look away.”

He accentuated this with a lecherous gaze down her body.

“Ah, so it’s you,” Cheng Weisaid with a tight but polite smile.

Liu Liang nodded eagerly. His eyes shifted over to the security guard who had been handlingCheng Wei’s admission. Out of nowhere, he began to berate the other man in a loud, booming voice.

“Is this how you do your job? This is Master Yu Jing’s treasured pupil! Why are you making her wait, huh? If you don’t want your job anymore, then do us all a favor and leave this instant!”

Liu Liang’s eyes were narrowed into slits, and he fixed them on the poor guard with obvious hostility.
