85 Saving People

The sound of artillery fire was endless, and dust covered every pure and white face. Sparks began to spread from the surroundings of the venue to the center, and smoke suddenly rushed into everyone’s noses.

“Is there a need to be so serious?! Do you want to burn us to death?!” A student’s eyes were bloodshot from the smoke. He grabbed the arm of the human wall in front of him and forcefully pushed her up. “If you can’t, get lost. It’s my turn!”

One after another, the students reacted. This was no longer a simple practical training. The dust and fog in the air were getting thicker. If this dragged on for too long, they might really be in danger.

The girl, who was still in a daze behind the human wall, was suddenly grabbed by the arm and pushed onto the shoulder of the person in front of her. “Why are you in a daze? Do you want to die?!”

On the city wall, Su Tang and another boy pulled a student up. The thick smoke choked her lungs and she couldn’t help but bend down and cough.

“Move away first. Leave this to me.”

Shi Man pushed her out without thinking. According to the chief instructor, as long as they got to the other side of the city wall, they could survive. As long as Su Tang went down to the other side of the city wall, she would be safe.

“Manman.” Su Tang held her hand firmly, her soft eyes filled with unfamiliar ruthlessness. “I’ll accompany you.”

“Can anyone help me? Please!”

Outside the city wall, another student climbed up, but because there were not enough people on the wall, he was left on the spot.

Chen Wei, who was supporting him, felt that his shoulder blades were about to be crushed by him, but he still persisted and swallowed. He gritted his teeth and didn’t even have the strength to care about the sweat flowing into his eyes. “Damn, Sister Man, hurry up. I can’t hold on anymore.”

Shi Man did not have the time to persuade Su Tang to leave. She could only let Su Tang stay with her. The two of them pulled the student hanging on the city wall up. Chen Wei finally lost his burden and fell to the ground, no longer having the strength to stand up.

“Chen Wei!” Du Ming stood behind him hesitantly and clenched his fists. “I’ll send you up. You can’t hold on anymore.”

Chen Wei got up and wiped the sweat off his face. He nodded heavily. “Alright!”

Time passed minute by minute. More and more students gathered on the other side of the city wall. Those who were strong would take the initiative to replace the students on the city wall. Those who were weak stared fixedly at the commotion above, hoping that this practical training would end quickly.

There was no need for anyone to give commands in the venue. The students could finally climb the city wall in an orderly manner. The human wall changed wave after wave. The students in charge of receiving them on the wall mechanically held pairs of hands and brought them to the other students above.

Suddenly, there was an explosion at the edge of the venue. Shi Man frowned and looked over. Through the thick smoke, she acutely saw that a circle of small bombs on the outer edge was being detonated one by one.

The students standing nearby were affected by the tremor and fell forward uncontrollably.

“Why are you still standing there? Come over quickly!” Chen Wei urged anxiously on the city wall. He wished he could jump down and throw those people onto the city wall.

Shi Jing and a few students were so frightened that their bodies were trembling. They hurriedly got up from the ground and pushed through the crowd to rush towards the human wall crazily, squeezing into the orderly queue in front.

“Let me go up. I don’t want to be here anymore. I’ve had enough!” Shi Jing stepped on the thigh used to support her body in a panic and looked up at the wall pleadingly. She was caught off guard and met Shi Man’s cold eyes.

As if someone had splashed a basin of cold water on her head, she retracted her foot in shock and gritted her teeth to pull the girl back. “I’ll take the back. You guys go first!”

Her rationality finally overcame her panic. Shi Jing closed her eyes and silently retreated to the back of the team. Now that all the students in the school were watching, she could not embarrass herself.

This interlude was quickly forgotten. The students in front were still in order as if they were real soldiers who had been trained thousands of times.

There were fewer and fewer students left under the wall. Finally, it was Shi Jing’s turn.

She looked at the exhausted classmate in front of her and stood on his shoulder without any delay. She raised her hand and reached out to Shi Man.

A pair of cold hands suddenly pulled her back. Shi Jing couldn’t help but look up and see Shi Man pulling her up with a serious expression. Her eyes were cold as if she had just pulled a corpse up.

Shi Jing patted the dust off her body and rolled her eyes. “Saving me really disgusts you.”

“You’re thinking too much.” Shi Man continued to reach out to scoop up the next person. She took the time to reply, “It’s just that you don’t deserve to die.”

Shi Jing was stunned. She suddenly curled her lips and sneered, as if this was the only way to suppress the throbbing in her heart. “I won’t thank you. I won’t let you off in the future.”

Shi Man glanced at her indifferently and said casually, “If you want to die, go ahead.”

The smoke of the battlefield made everyone’s eyes red. In her daze, Shi Jing actually saw a completely unfamiliar ruthless girl through Shi Man.
