When Shen Manting heard these words, she glared at Shen Luo’an and laughed humorlessly. She replied, “What makes you think this child is yours? Shen Luo’an, stop claiming credit for things that aren’t yours.”

“It’s not mine?” Shen Luo’an took a step closer to her with menace in his eyes. “Whose is it?”

“That’s none of your business. In any case, the child isn’t yours.” The look in Shen Manting’s eyes was cool and collected. She stared at the man in front of her, and with a hint of mockery asked, “What now? You’ve decided to become a human after being released from prison?”

“Was I not a human before that?”

“You’ve always been an animal!” Shen Manting snapped brusquely and without courtesy.

Her words didn’t infuriate Shen Luo’an at all. He simply looked at her steadily and retorted, “If I’m an animal, what does that make the person who’s been f*cked by this animal?”

Shen Manting gritted her teeth and caressed her belly subconsciously. In a low voice laced with anger, she said, “Stop talking to me about such useless things. What on earth do you want?”

“I want to take my child home.” Shen Luo’an placed both his hands inside the pockets of his pants and looked at Shen Manting as he said, “At the end of the day, this child is going to be my firstborn. I don’t want it to live a wandering life as an illegitimate child without a proper identity and status.”

“I already told you that this isn’t your child.” Shen Manting looked at Shen Luo’an and said with ridicule, “Did you really think that I would keep your child? You’re too naïve, Shen Luo’an.”

Shen Luo’an knew that Shen Manting’s words were uttered out of anger, but he couldn’t control the fury that burst within him. He clenched his jaw and with a sardonic laugh said, “Nothing you can say will change anything. Come back with me, and I’ll give you a very good life. It’ll be even better than before. You’ll have anything you could ever want or ask for.”

“I don’t need that.” Shen Manting looked at Shen Luo’an as if she were looking at an idiot. “What makes you think I’d even consider going back with you? To tell you the truth, every time after you were done, I took the Plan B pill. Therefore, it’s impossible for this child to be yours.”

Shen Luo’an pressed his lips into a thin line as he stared into Shen Manting’s eyes, trying to detect a hint of a lie in them. However, Shen Manting’s expression was filled with nothing but ridicule. It was as if she were mocking him for his sentimentality and for overestimating himself.

Shen Luo’an’s already volatile emotions turned into a raging fury. He gritted his teeth and threatened, “You’re courting death!”

“What a strange thing to say! I’m courting death just because this isn’t your child?” The smile on Shen Manting’s face was full of derision as she continued, “I was never even supposed to have any such relation with you in the first place, Brother.”

Shen Luo’an stared at Shen Manting’s bare face. It was obvious that she hadn’t applied any makeup, but her features were still delicate and striking. Her complexion wasn’t looking good, and her lips were pale, but it was this very face that made Shen Luo’an’s heart ache.

Shen Manting should never have fallen to such a state. She was supposed to be his little canary in captivity, to look pretty all day and summon up her charm with the wiggle of a finger.

However, here she was, in this tiny village, living the life of a pregnant villager. It was not supposed to be this way. Neither was she supposed to call him “Brother.”

“Brother?” Shen Luo’an stuffed his hands into his pant pockets and took a step forward. “Have you ever seen a brother and sister with a sexual relationship?”

“Before I met you, never. But after meeting you, I realized that there were many kinds of people in this world.” Shen Manting laughed dryly. “Including bastard wolves in sheep’s clothing.”

Shen Luo’an balled up his fists tightly and managed to control his temper. “Are you done scolding?” he asked casually.
