Chapter 40 – Part 1

“Yes, you do a good job making people angry.”

You knew me too well.

Nonetheless, I pretended I had no idea of what he was saying and uttered shamelessly.

“Me? Impossible. I’m definitely doing my best believing in God and serving Him…”

“I have no idea what happened inside the temple. I was locked up inside and had never talked with you.”

I bowed my head, feeling so solemn for no reason.

It wasn’t my fault though it was true that I ignored him. He told me that he learned a lot about me while he was on the run, that I couldn’t live without bullying others, spitting out absurd words very well, and was ignorant… That was all me.

“You’re not being sarcastic and cursing me, right?”

“I am complimenting you.”

“No, I was too kind. Still, I did it because I want to break away.”

If I was like that, then it was like that.

“You’re good at wrapping things up.”

“Would you like to lie down after a while?”

“Ah, but the food came.”

Speaking eloquently, he let go of my hand that he was holding.

Soon, the roasted greasy pork leg was placed in the middle of the table. Fruit salad and drinks were placed, and so were the baguette and jam. I secretly whispered to the escort knights to take revenge.

“Frey said it’s on him. Eat your fill. Order a million roasted pork legs.”

“…We, we can’t eat that much.”

As I beckoned them to order quickly with a smile, Frey grinned and cut off a whole leg of meat before placing it on the plate in front of me.

“I am going to rob from your pockets today.”

“But, I want my pockets to be robbed by noona.”

If you say it like that, I wouldn’t know how to respond. Do I have to say that I understand and really start to rob you? I’m saying this just in case, but I have the confidence that I can do this very well when I was born with a golden spoon and only ate and wore expensive things.

Like a baby bird, I started eating and looked around.

“Have you been here before your return?”

“Yes. I stayed here before I met Regina.”

If I had a dream on my way home, then it was only fitting that my memories came back. However, it was just a fragment that made me frustrated. Even though I had already heard from Frey that there was nothing, I came here in hopes that I could remember everything about Regina.

Another memory about Regina flashed… Should I be happy with just that?

“Don’t try too hard, noona.”

“Huh?”

“Even if you can’t remember, I will.”

And, that’s why it is a problem. How are you able to remember that and stay sane? I would have hugged and comforted you if you just said you cried because you were scared… Just saying that you’re alright, it is making me worry.

As I thought so, I tilted my head and stared at him with a displeased expression.

“Why are you staring at me like that? Did I do something wrong?”

“What? No, you did nothing wrong.”

I said it as a joke, but I was freaked out and vehemently denied it. It was because Frey really didn’t do anything wrong.

Even if there was, Frey could forgive everything. Even before the return, the person who was involved remembered everything because it wasn’t something that I could keep to myself. As long as the biggest victim remembered, this didn’t happen.

“I will tightly hold onto Lisandro this time, so you don’t need to worry.”

“Instead of Lisandro, please hold onto me. I am a little scared.”

You look like you are making fun of me when you say that with a face that’s not scared at all. I think you’ll be fine even if I don’t take care of you.

Even though he was only wearing a robe like that, I could see how handsome he is just by looking at his toned body, tall height, and silhouette. His exceptionally red lips and sharp nose, and his white neck…

“…Crazy. You grew up so fine.”

When I looked like I was possessed and said something without realizing it, he giggled and laughed as if something was funny.

Or was my expression too sincere…?

“Is noona very satisfied with my body figure?”

“So fine… isn’t what I am saying. What do you think I am!”

We went out for a walk after dinner while having a chat about anything.

People glanced at us with confused eyes, but they quickly averted their looks. Anyone who saw someone wearing a knight’s uniform could easily guess that there was a noble. There were cases where some were caught for blasphemy just because they stared at a noble, so everyone turned their attention away.

“It’s quiet here.”

“It is because we are on the outskirts.”

“If someone would hide, they would definitely run to a place like this.”

Even though I glanced at him to see his reaction as I said that, he gazed like he didn’t care about what I had just said.

“Thanks to noona who volunteered to help the poor, I learned about the geography of this place.”

Come to think of it, I said that I could find my way here because I saw it in my dream.

“Then, did you come here to find me?”

“Yes.”

It must have taken Lisandro quite a while to find a remote place like this. While I couldn’t remember, I thought I really did my best, seeing that I also knew this place.

As I was to go back from walking, Frey put his arm in front of me to stop me.

“Wait a moment, noona.”

The next moment, a small firebird appeared in the air.

“The Fire Spirit King?”

“Call it Ignis, noona.”

He nodded knowingly.

“But why…?”

Before I knew it, he was already standing in front of me as if to protect me, so I poked out my face from behind.

“Huh? Why? What is it?”

No matter how many times I asked him, he didn’t answer. Frowning my brows, I raised my head and saw that Frey was covering my mouth with his large hand and staring down at me.

“…What? What is it? What’s wrong?”

Frey’s eyes were looking persistently at it and followed its body. With a muffled voice, mumbled in a low voice.

“Oh, that’s so cute.”

[ …Is she talking about Frey? Have I finally gone crazy? ]

It was my first time hearing that mysterious voice. Without having the need to search for the source, I quickly found where it came from.

It was the little firebird talking.

Because it was a spirit, it had a clear voice that was just listening to it would open your ears. However, contrary to its voice, the words it uttered were not very clear.
