Chapter 442: The Past: War Part 2

Keniil was stubborn and did not want to leave. "Devan! If you do not go, I will also stay."

Devan sighed and waved his hand, sending out a gust of wind as he yelled: "Go! Do not make me lose everything again!"

Keniil was sent flying out of the throne room. The doors slammed shut in front of him. Gritting his teeth, Keniil got up and glanced at the door. "Old friend, I will come back and find you one day. If your soul is still around, I can always bring you back as a lich..." After saying these words, Keniil turned and walked away. Since he was told to get the lich out, he would.

Devan got up from this throne and walked towards the back wall. He pressed on a stone, causing the wall to open up and reveal a staircase leading down. Devan followed the stairs all the way down deep underground. In this place was a small room with a stone podium. "It is here that I will rest until the day that the one worthy of my power arrives. Until then, I shall protect this city from all harm."

Devan let out a sigh as he looked up at the ceiling. "If It was possible to let you stay in this city, I would allow it, but in order to protect this place, I must make it a city that no one can escape from. An eternal loop for all who enter."

Devan took a knife from his side and cut open his wrist. He dripped his blood onto the podium and began reciting an ancient chant, a magic circle formed under his feet and another on top of the podium. His feet began to turn into a black cloud of death element, then his lower legs, his upper legs, and continued all the way until there was nothing left but a dense ball of death element hovering ever so quietly over the podium.

After the first city fell, the leaders of the human domain quickly gathered. "How is it that he became so powerful so quickly!?"

"Who knows, but that man has always been powerful, to begin with. But now he has that Nephilim at his side! From our reports, she was playing a big role in taking over the first city."

"We can not let them push further into our domain. They can keep the city they took, but we can not let them go any further! At least not until we are able to take it back."

"Who shall lead the army?"

"I will. I have a bone to pick with that bitch I failed to kill."

"Oh? Someone is very touchy today."

"Humph! You have no idea what kind of a shame it was for me to let her get away all those years ago. If it wasn't for her, I am sure Ar'en wouldn't be attacking us like this."

"Then you can lead. Just do not do anything to get yourself killed."

"I know."

Inside the city that Kana and Ar'en just took, A meeting was being held between the generals, Kana and Ar'en.

"Your Majesty, where do we attack next?" One of the generals asked.

"We won't be moving just yet. We will hold our forces here for the time being. Those of the human domain will not just sit idly by while we take their city. We will slowly take each city one by one. We will occupy it and then push the enemy back while leaving a squad to defend it. But we first need to set up a front line. Without a front line, we will never know how much land we have conquered. We will spread our men out into a half circle from this point. As we progress, any city that stands in our way will become ours." Ar'en explained as he used a map made of magic to show his plan.

"But with our advantage right now, we can take more than one city quickly, can we not?" Another general asked.

"We do not know how fast of a response we will receive from the main forces of the human domain. We easily took this city because we have the element of surprise. Now we do not. The human domain will be expecting us to take another city. If we do, they will have the chance to flank us, and we will end up losing before things get started. Being too greedy is bad. Take things slow and watch the enemy's reactions. Move to counter everything they do and gain ground at the same time. This is how you win wars." Ar'en did not want to lose the lives of his men needlessly. So he would not risk giving the enemy a chance to stab them in the back.

"How are the citizens?" Kana asked. She was more concerned about the treatment of the people. Not everyone was guilty of the crimes committed against her clan or the people of the city that was massacred.

"There is no sign of resistance, and the people are not being harmed in any way. Anyone who protests is being detained and not killed. All is going according to your orders, Your Highness. "

"Mmm… Good. Tell the unit in control of public security that I will be visiting tomorrow." Kana was happy that things were going smoothly. As the war progressed, many lives would be lost. But she did not want needless killing. She hoped by not oppressing the people after taking a location that the people will not revolt. Revolutions bring about more violence and death.

When Kana finished, Ar'en continued: "As for our next targets, they will be here and here, the cities west and east of us. This will allow us to fan out evenly and not leave any holes in our defense. Generals make sure you are always in contact with your platoon leaders. Always have a constant update of what is going on. If even a small section of our forces thin out we will need to stop our advance and rework our plans. I will not allow us to fail. Since we have begun this war we will see it through until the end."
