Chapter 218: Trial Of Survival/Dronic Dungeon Part 25

The judge looked at Kana, quite surprised how she was able to deduce everything so easily. He then glanced at Durke Berg, who nodded his head.  Seeing this, the judge adjusted himself as he said: "Since you already know, I will not beat around the bush then. I hereby sentence you to death for stealing and harming members of the royal family!"

"Oh really?" A voice came from outside the door. The door opened, and when they saw who walked in, their faces all fell. Walking in looking like a beggar on the side of the road was a man wearing an old dirty, ripped up shirt, pants, and a pair of cloth shoes that had a hole in the tips where the toes were supposed to go.

"Brother, why are you here!? And dressed like a beggar at that?" Duke Berg frowned seeing his brother walk in. He had a bad feeling something was going to happen.

"Do you think it is easy for me to walk around the streets if I do not dress in such a manner and as for what I am doing here..." The king looked over at Kana and nodded. "A small little bird told me you were up to no good."

The day before...

King Berg, king of the Bergus Kingdom. Ruler of a vast land that was at odds with the Dargonia Kingdom. Each kingdom owned half the continent, but it just so happened that the better half was under the Bergus Kingdom flag. Between these two kingdoms was a thousand kilometers of no man's land where the wars between the two kingdoms rage every day.

King Berg took the throne at the age of twenty two. He was a man who had seen the bad and good of people. Once he was settled into his position, he finally set a new law that disallowed nobles and other high ranking officials from using their status to pressure people. Anyone who broke the law would have a trial, and if found guilty, they would be punished by the fullest extent of the law.

His brother Duke Berg highly disapproved of this law. He argued that those of noble status was above commoners, and commoners were nothing more than trash which should give way to a noble. But no matter how much he protested, King Berg still passed the law. Since then, their society had changed for the better. While some old laws that were questionable still existed, it was still moving in the right direction. King Berg knew too much change at one time would not be good. So he had been slowly implementing his plans to make his Kingdom a place for all who lived there to live happy, fulfilling lives.

On this day, King Berg did his normal weekly routine of roaming around the streets of his kingdom dressed as a beggar. He did this to see how his citizens were living, how they were dealing with the gradual changes in society. It was on this day he saw a new face. The girl seemed like a traveler from the countryside. He did not know which race of lizard man she was because she had such a thick tail and two wings on her back. But he could tell she was having fun wandering around his capital city. Seeing such a sight was something that made him feel proud as a king. Because the girl was beautiful and he was interested to see how his people interacted with her, he followed along behind her as she wandered around.

But who would have thought that as the girl stopped at a stall to buy something, that as soon as she was about to receive it, his own niece would run up and snatch the item out of the stall owner's hand even though the girl had already paid for it? Seeing such a sight, he frowned and was about to step forward to say something when his eyes opened wide at the girl's actions.

Not only did she talk down to his niece but also his own brother, putting them both in their place. He was even more surprised to see that the stall owner also took her side. Such a scene made him glad that he became king. Otherwise, the poor girl would have ended up with a bad end. It was then that he decided to follow after his brother and see what he was up to next. But who would have thought….

---

"So, now tell me, my brother, why is it that you are trying to commit treason by usurping the throne?" King Berg asked.

"Brother, what do you mean? I have been faithful to you since the day you became king." Duke Berg was sweating a little. He had been so careful there was no way anyone would know of his plans unless there was a traitor. He was hoping his brother was just making assumptions.

"Oh? Faithful? Do you call raising an army of thousands under my city faithful? Bring them in!" King Berg yelled.

Kana, who was standing by watching the show, was quite surprised that this King knew so much. Although, him finding out makes it hard for her to use a mutiny to her advantage of making her way down that staircase. But when she saw the man who walked into the courtroom after, Kana couldn't help but smile. Bridan walked in, looking perfectly fine. Behind him were two other men in iron cuffs and chains.  King Berg looked at his brother and sneered. "When you try to kill someone, make sure the men who return to your side are really your men. "

He then looked at Kana and smiled. "Miss, the stall owner, is fine. He is at home with his family. I had also sent someone to protect you as well, but it seemed it was unnecessary."  After saying this, his smile disappeared as he narrowed his eyes. "Now tell me, brother what is the meaning of forming such a large army? And do not try to lie to me since I have captured each one of them. Are you still going to tell me you are faithful?"
