Chapter 556: River Of Reincarnation Part 1

Angelica walked through the streets of Reincarnation city. The citizens were living out normal daily lives as if they were alive. There were stores of all kinds, even pubs for souls to get drunk on life ale. A kind of ale made of strands of life force that will give souls a buzz as if they were drinking ale from a pub in the mortal world.

"Empress, where do you wish to go?" Jeana asked in a low voice. She always made sure her voice was only loud enough for Angelica to hear and no one else.

"I plan to head straight to the river of reincarna… Hold on… That is the little girl from before, right?" Angelica pointed to the little girl wandering around, looking lost. She was the same girl that was turned into a monster after consuming souls.

"I do believe so…" Jeana answered. Before she could ask what Angelica wanted to do, She saw Angelica walk over to the young girl and pat her head. The young girl looked up at Angelica with teary eyes and began crying. She watched as Angelica hugged her and lifted her up, and held her in her arms.  Jeana smiled as she walked over. It seemed this new Empress of her was much kinder than the old Ghost Empress.

Angelica held the girl and turned towards Jeana: "Let's head to the river. I need to speak to it."

Angelica's words confused Jeana. She did not understand what she meant by speaking to the river of reincarnation. She only knew the river would consume souls to gather power to enable it to reincarnate a lucky person. She never heard of anyone speaking to it. Not even the first Ghost Empress was able to do such a thing, at least from what she knew.

Guessing Jeana's thoughts, Angelica gave a mysterious smile and said: "You will see. Little Ann here will be able to reincarnate today."

Angelica did not plan to go into detail, but she learned from the book of the dead after it was put into her mind the one book she did not copy into Jeana's mind since it would have shattered her soul was that in the far back there was a passage. In this passage, it talked about how the river of reincarnation was nothing more than a monster with the power to send souls into recently dead bodies or into unborn babies who had yet to form a soul. Its only source of food was souls, which with such a large body, took many years to become full. It would still reincarnate people as that was its purpose. So while people thought it was just a river that consumed souls for power, this was the true nature of the river of reincarnation, a monster who consumed souls food and reincarnated people only when it felt like it.

Angelica walked straight to the river of reincarnation, where tens of thousands of souls were gathered along its shores. There were thousands of lines for those who wished to try their chance at reincarnation that started back in the city. But further down the embankment was a large group of female souls, all of which had one aim, to become the next Ghost Empress.

As Angelica walked towards the shore with Ann in her arms and Jeana respectfully following behind her, she garnered a lot of attention. This was because her aura was out of this world. She had the aura of a ruler, which made the other souls instinctively look down and avert their eyes in fear that you would be punished.

But this was not to say all the female souls feared her. There were a few strong-willed ones who stared at her with eyes filled with malice. One of which, a middle-aged woman, sneered as she walked up to Angelica as she made her way over and stood in front of her. "Girl, you're new here, right? Why are you bringing a child and a slave with you to a place that is meant for those who are trying to..."

"Shut up," Angelica spoke words softly, but the middle-aged woman's mouth suddenly closed and would not open again. She grasped at her mouth, trying to pull her lips apart, but no matter how hard she tried, she wasn't able to pry them apart. She looked up at Angelica with eyes full of fear. She realized now that she had messed with the wrong person! This young woman in front of her was no ordinary soul!

Angelica paid no heed to the middle-aged woman as she continued walking by her. The other female souls at the bank all parted, giving her a path to the shore's edge, where Angelica stopped just at the water line. The river was extremely vast, and the opposite side seemed tiny from where she was. Angelica smiled as she knelt down and poked the surface of the water, causing all those around her to stare at her with eyes full of fear. They all thought she was crazy and would be sucked in, but to their surprise, she was perfectly fine! Nothing happened. Others have done the same and were instantly consumed by the river. This was why it was important to not touch the water, or you would end up losing your chance at becoming the Empress.

Angelica stood back up and turned to Jeana as she said: "You can either stay here or come with me. It is your choice."

"I would not be here if I were not going to follow you," Jeana replied with a determined look. Even she, a keeper of the trial, was not immune to the effects of the river of reincarnation.

"Mmm… Good! Then take my hand and do not worry."  Angelica said as she let Ann down and held her hand while stretching her other out to Jeana. Jeana blushed as she reached out and held on to Angelica's hand.  "Then let's be off."  Angelica said with a smile before taking her a step out towards the water in front of her.
