Chapter 145

The wedding went on without any interruption. Ram was actually quite worried the whole time that his parents would burst in at any moment and demand that the wedding be moved back to the original date, but it seemed that even the elder Reyeses had kept the wedding to themselves.

Ram was more than happy to see his little sister get married to one of his best friends. He had witnessed how Miguel followed Veronica around like a lost puppy ever since they were children. He had also seen how much Miguel was willing to sacrifice for Veronica.

When the priest announced that Miguel could now kiss his bride, Ram was worried that his sister would either duck and run or slap Miguel. To Ram's delight neither happened as the couple kissed and looked at each other. What pleased Ram even more was the way that Miguel and Veronica stared into each other's eyes were as if they were truly deeply in love.

As the couple walked back down the aisle all their friends celebrated and clapped. Ram sent over the wedding photos to his reporters and some paparazzi to publish. He was sure that after a few minutes his phone would be ringing.

As they all walked out of the chapel his phone did just that and it was his dad, James Abad.

"Hey dad." Ram answered.

"Your sister is married and you had it announced everywhere!" James Abad was clearly furious.

"Dad, didn't you expect Anna to do something like this? She has never liked following other people's orders." Ram reminded his father.

"Your foolish, immature move lost us a great opportunity! Do you know how many people were begging to be invited to the wedding? There was so much leverage and you wasted it! This was not how I brought you up." James scolded.

"Dad, she still married Miguel Chan, one of the most eligible bachelors in the country. She still did what you wanted." Ram reminded James.

"Where is the reception? We are coming over." James declared.

"Sorry dad. Can't tell you. I promised Anna. Bye dad." Ram said as he dropped the call.

Miguel held Veronica's hand from the chapel to the bridal car.

"Miguel, loosen your grip. It's not like I can run away." Veronica scolded her new husband.

"What do you mean? Of course you can run away, you still have legs!" Miguel teased.

"Ugh, I don't know why I agreed to marry you." Veronica said out of frustration.

"Because V," Miguel said as he lifted her chin and stared into her eyes. "With me, you are truly free."

"You're stupid." Veronica said as she slapped his hand away as she slid into the car.

The wedding reception was held at Mountain View, there were no additional guests and everyone enjoyed the afternoon teasing each other.

"Hey Eric. How does it feel to be the only single one in the family?" Miguel teased his brother as he winked.

"I don't force the girl I like to marry me." Eric teased back.

"Ha, I never forced Veronica." Miguel said sticking his tongue out.

"Nicole, what's wrong, why are you so quiet?" Katerina asked Nicole who was usually lively and full of energy.

"What are you saying? I'm always like this." Nicole argued back.

"Prim and proper? You're never prim and proper in private." Katerina said.

"Whenever Ian is around, Nicole behaves." Veronica joined in the jest.

"Hey, you're supposed to be on my side. We're sisters now!" Nicole complained.

"Silly girl. We've all always been sisters." Veronica told Nicole.

"Oh, yeah, but I mean lawfully we are sisters now." Nicole said.

Everyone stayed till night time, until Cedric was forced to drive everyone away so that Adrianna could rest.

Since they hadn't begun construction of their house Miguel and Veronica would be living in Cedric's guest house till the home was complete. When everyone had left and the Reyeses had bid them goodnight Miguel carried Veronica over to the house.

"Hey, put me down, what are you doing?" Veronica complained.

"I'm carrying you over the threshold." Miguel said as he opened the door.

"You're being silly." Veronica reprimanded.

"It's a good thing you're so tiny. It's so easy to carry you." Miguel teased.

"Ugh, another heightjoke. Don't you get tired of them." Veronica said as she rolled her eyes at her husband.

"Hey, my jokes are funny. Plus now I get to make those jokes for the rest of our lives." Miguel said as he continued to carry Veronica in the house.

"You can put me down now." Veronica reminded her now husband.

"Mmmm, nope. I'm carrying you all the way to bed." Miguel said kissing her on the forehead. He actually waited for her to slap him but when it did not come Miguel was pleasantly surprised.

Veronica on the other hand was shocked by Miguel's tenderness. Never in the years that she had known him was he this kind or sweet towards her. When she realized that Miguel had gently placed her on the bed she began to complain.

"Wait, no. What? We can't do this. I'm not ready." Veronica said as she blushed and got off the bed.

"Relax V. I won't touch you if you don't want me to." Miguel said as he turned to change clothes.

"Go to the room you were sleeping in last time." Veronica shouted.

"Veronica, we're man and wife now. We have to at least sleep on the same bed." Miguel said with a wink.

"No. Out!" Veronica said pointing at the door.

"Fine. But when we move into our new home, we sleep in the same bed." Miguel said, taking some clothes with him.

When she was finally alone in the room, Veronica stared at the ring on her finger. Most people would say that marriage chained them down, but to her it was the ticket to her freedom, plus it wasn't like she had any other guys in her life. She had always known she would have to marry Miguel, so she chose to close her heart to other people, earning her the nickname the ice queen. It wasn't that she didn't love, she couldn't, how could she when she had been promised to someone else already.

Miguel had just come out of the shower and was only wearing a towel on his waist when Veronica knocked on the door.

"Had a change of heart, V?" Miguel teased as he opened the door.

When Veronica saw that he had only a towel on she turned away and blushed. She'd never been this close to an undressed man in the past. One wrong move and everything could be exposed.

"Don't be so shy Veronica. We are husband and wife, everything you see is yours." Miguel teased.

"Could you help me with my dress?" Veronica said in a shy voice. She was ashamed that after sending him away she needed his help to undress.

"Okay, but it will cost you." Miguel whispered seductively into her ear.

"Stop it Miguel." Veronica scolded.

"I'll help you, if you kiss me, not a peck. A real kiss." Miguel said.

Veronica paused to think for a bit before finally agreeing.

Miguel did as he promised and helped her unzip before Veronica dashed away, leaving a puzzled Miguel to change into his pajamas.

An hour later, Miguel was reviewing some files for his next operation when Veronica knocked again. This time she stood outside his door in pajamas.

"What is it this time?" Miguel complained.

"I'm here to keep my end of the deal." Veronica said as she blushed.

"I thought you ran away." Miguel said, pulling her closer by the waist.

Veronica tiptoed and kissed Miguel deeply.
