Chapter 4308 - Battle Begins (8)

“Hello, Uncle Gao,” Wei Yunchu greeted him immediately.

“Whoa. Kiddo, you’re here, too.”

“Yeah. It’s winter vacation. I came with my mom.”

“Xiaowei, are you busy now?”

“Not now. I just finished one analysis. What’s up?”

“Come. I want to talk to you.”

Gao Ran beckoned at her and led her to a corner in the office.

Standing in front of the glass wall and looking at the bustling street below them, Gao Ran asked, “Did you have contact with Mian lately?”

“Yeah. I talked to her on WeChat.”

“Did you notice anything wrong?” Gao Ran turned to look at her.

“Not really… But Mian indeed isn’t herself lately. She doesn’t like to see me or Lingling. I know the loss of the baby is a big blow to her, especially after Xixi’s daughter was born. I suspect she blacklisted Xixi because only she didn’t give a like to Xixi’s baby picture post… But I understand how she feels. Anyone who has gone through so much would feel devastated.”

“Besides this, there is another serious issue.”

“What is it?” Jiang Xiaowei was puzzled.

“Did you hear about the thing between her and Qin Chu?”

“What is it?” Obviously, Jiang Xiaowei knew nothing about it.

“Divorce.”

Hearing the word from Gao Ran, Jiang Xiaowei’s jaw dropped.

“Huh? No way. Divorce… Are you sure you heard it right?”

“I’m sure.”

“Who said it? Qin Chu or… Mian?” Jiang Xiaowei didn’t know who wanted to divorce.

Gao Ran sighed lightly. “You have to ask? Of course Mian said it. Chu loves his wife so much; he’d never divorce her.”

“But… why? She lost the baby, but it’s not big enough to cause a divorce… Are they serious?”

Jiang Xiaowei thought it might be a joke.

“It’s not a joke. I met Chu and Mian and found neither of them was in a good state. I think Chu is his old self, but Mian… has become weird. I’m afraid she is suppressing all her frustration inside after she lost the baby; these negative feelings might cause depression eventually. So, I hope you can see Huo Mian, but not in a gathering of friends. You can get her here to do a psychological test or something and see what’s wrong with her.”

“It’s a good idea. But I’m not sure she’d want to do that…” Jiang Xiaowei thought Huo Mian wouldn’t like this idea.

“I have a way to get her here. Your job is giving her a check up…”

“Okay.”

“I’ll call her now,” Gao Ran said as he walked out of the office.

“Huh? Today?”

“Why not? Let’s get it over with.”

Jiang Xiaowei didn’t know what method Gao Ran used, but he indeed got Huo Mian to the bureau.

Huo Mian came in a red Ferrari. Obviously, her taste in cars had changed since she’d never driven such a fancy car before.

Huo Mian went upstairs and saw Gao Ran and Jiang Xiaowei waiting for her at the door.

“You’re both here.”

“Yeah. Did you bring the files I need?” Gao Ran asked.

“Yeah. They’re all here.”

Huo Mian handed a paper bag to him.

“Oh, Mian, you came just in time. I have a new machine and just got it installed. Can you test it for me?”

“What machine?” Obviously, she was wary.

“It’s used to treat intractable insomnia. Gao Ran tested it for me. I hope you can give it a try, too. I need your feedback.”

Jiang Xiaowei grabbed Huo Mian’s hand and pulled her toward the machine.

But Huo Mian threw away Jiang Xiaowei’s hand; her reaction was so violent and rough that she almost pushed Jiang Xiaowei to the floor.
