Chapter 36 - TOGETHER TONIGHT

As he crossed his muscular arms, his biceps flex their brawny sight. And for a moment Yue glanced at his muscles, calculating how much they differed in strength and power. She knew if he were to force her into doing anything she wouldn't be able to resist his potency.

She didn't completely trust him yet, after all she barely knew anything about him.

But Wu had, on numerous occasions proved to be a gentleman. Despite on equally numerous occasions humiliating her and even trying to suck the life out of her.

But even with the small amount of trust and regard she had for him as he rescued and sheltered her, she ought to give him a chance. She wanted to believe that he was the gentleman she took him to be. Yue deeply desired for him to be one of the good characters in the novel.

"I... I just don't want to sleep out there alone. I'm afraid." She explained and shrugged her shoulders as she justified her earnest imploration, at the same time her fingers playing with the hem of the soft fabric occupied by her hands to bide her time as he contemplated over her bizzare request.

Given the way Wu was, he wouldn't have allowed Yue to be in the same bed as his and that too the considered bed being his own. She knew this and was worrying over her request being rudely declined as he first rejected to take her to the Palace as well. And she doesn't even have any more offerings for him persay he reframes the question of what she could give him in return for allowing her to sleep in the same room as him.

Starting tomorrow she had to enact along the role of being his servant, so in most likelihood he wouldn't simply agree to letting her share his sleep place. That would be morally deplorable for him.

"Get in the bed." Wu exhaled as he dropped his arms to his side in a sudden defeat. Yue's eyes widened for a brief moment on hearing his unprecedented response.

She couldn't get herself to believe how easily he was convinced to her words. She was apprehensive entirely of now getting where she wanted to. It was almost suspicious at how quickly he agreed to her demands. Her mind instantly indulged in a sceptical mindset. How could a resisting man like himself heed to her words that easily?

It was only reasonable for Yue to be dubious of his approval. It should have been though, a moment of elation and victory on being triumphant in what she desired, but having Wu giving in without any argument or comeback, or even words of his habitual humiliation rendered Yue to be doubtful of whether or not she should leap into the exciting given chance.

Also, get in the bed? She had not asked for sleeping with him in his bed, what she had in mind was to drag the mattress from outside and lay beside his bed frame on the floor.

What she didn't know was that this very being in front of her, with his arrogant demeanour was actually a coconut. A tough, unbreakable bearing on the surface but a softer, empathetic being inside. But even then, it was rarely ever possible to draw his endearing version out, but with her it was almost as though no efforts were required at all. But neither of the two had the tiniest of idea of the impacts and effects they had on each other.

"If you don't want to, then there's the door please leave." his tone wasn't aggravated at all, it was simple, soft and precise as he pointed his hand briefly at the opened doorway but Yue neither shifted her gaze away from staring numbly at him nor did she move an inch from her cemented position.

Seeing Yue stand frozen in her feet, Wu began heading back to his mattress. His mind was preoccupied with other thoughts to give this one much importance. He was alright with her sleeping anywhere as long as she slept and he could peacefully contemplate over his own problems.

The thing was, as of now, he didn't care much about her welfare. There were things that troubled him much more, and he had no one he could discuss them out with. He knew even if he did have someone, there was no point in having the conversation of his complex matters since no one else but him at the end had to resolve them.

But even so, having someone to rely on would mentally lessen his burden. But he over the prolonged years of living had forgotten what it was like to rely upon a significant other. Or what it was like to share his burden. Over his protracted lifeline, he had lost interest in almost everything. He couldn't even count on awaiting death since he knew it wouldn't ever reach him anyhow.

Yue saw her opportunity slipping away as Wu walked towards his own mattress. It was just one night right? It wouldn't matter much if they slept in a single bed. To sleep in the same bed was just to lie beside him, nothing scandalous or sensual. She knew that through these words she was only attempting to console herself and prepare herself for sleeping in the same bed as another man.

Sharing a single bed with another guy was already a strenuous task for a girl like Yue, who had never once in life ever indulged herself in sexual or even simple romantic love affairs.

Clarifying things in her own mind she wrapped her duvet around herself entirely rounding it from over her shoulder to enclosing it on her front such that she was completely enveloped in the blanket and she did so in a swift motion then speed walked towards the bed and jumped on it before Wu could even reach the hinges of the it. A glint of amusement floated in Wu's eyes as he saw the shorter human being quick in her actions.

She was quick in her actions due to the fact that she couldn't keep up with her just strengthened mindset of sleeping in that bed in front of her. Before she decided to change her mind, she quickly ran up to the glistening opportunity in front of her.

It was a single bed, but it was large enough for the two of them. Yue was equally elated as much as she was abashed. Her life prior to transmigrating here was so uneventful that even the mere act of laying in someone else's bed made her mind so worn out, as the million thoughts relating to sleeping with another guy in the same bed kept swerving in her head like a hurricane.

She had engulfed herself in her blanket to cut off all sort of physical contacts from the other human in the room and faced the wall. She had wrapped herself so neatly that she appeared similar to a cinnamon roll from the back view. Wu glanced at her small figure that appeared a perfect cylinder from his point of view and he suppressed a hearty chuckle at the 'adorable company' before he as well joined her on the same mattress.

Yue stared at the wall in front of her as she chose to lie on the inner side of the bed which was lined against the wall. It wasn't a choice rather it was a quick witted decision she undertook by getting to the void mattress before he could. Her face switched colors to shades of red and pink as she felt the bed dip with the weight of someone crawling onto the mattress. Without even turning back she could tell he was now laying right behind her.

Yue remained petrified in her position for quite a few minutes. She had never been in the same bed with another human being besides Lucy and her parents. It was morally disgraceful for her to undertake such decision of lying along a man in the same bed who wasn't even someone she was well acquainted with, but someone who was somewhat a stranger if not entirely.

She didn't know that the unadorned act of sleeping could get her to be so nervous. She was more alert now than she could ever be if she remained outside. Apart from keeping her senses sharpened, his presence also, at the same time, made her uncomfortable. His aura was so compelling and redoubtable that she just couldn't even allow herself to shift postions comfortably.

Her body was beginning to ache at the intensity and the longevity of her stiffness of laying in the same position for over the last 15 minutes or so that she just had to turn and loosen herself if she were to sleep peacefully. She had to let her worn out muscles to relax and heal. She was beginning to question her choice of shifting from the warm set up outside to the colder and comparatively limited in space one.

It was a confining realm that she had entered now, she couldn't bring herself to be at ease around him. She was ambivalent of making amends to her sleeping positions. If she turned to face his side or even lie flat on her back, she couldn't go to sleep knowing that he might as well be scrutinizing her face and making fun of her internally.

A better idea flashed across her mind.
