Chapter 145: Lab Rat

[56 exp points acquired per summons.]

Noah looked at the window floating in front of him and was very happy. He had gone up from 261 exp points to 317 without making any personal effort. If there were 10 imps invading Rank F Fortresses, it would be more than 500 exp points that he would receive every day doing nothing.

Noah decided to wait a few minutes before calling Patrick, since he must have left the Fortress by now, so there were still some government things he would probably need to deal with before taking out his own cell phone. But Noah didn't even have to wait 5 minutes to get Patrick's call, which he thought would be at least 10 minutes later.

Answering the call, Patrick didn't even let Noah say anything and started talking in an extremely excited tone, "Noah, this imp is incredible! You had to see him fighting; he practically danced among the monsters like a superior predator just picking prey! I left the Fortress without any scratch, since I was considered a summoning wizard. So I just stood in the rear watching while the imp did all the work."

Hearing Patrick's explanation, everything was within Noah's expectations. Placing a Rank E "monster" in a Rank F Fortress was like placing a wolf among the sheep: they could only do what he wanted in there. But then Patrick mentioned something that Noah hadn't thought of initially.

"And you had to see: Whenever the imp was hurt, the healer of the group healed him back to the peak state, but strangely I was feeling that the imp was absorbing that healing from the man, and it truly was! The more he absorbed that healing, whenever he received wounds, it was a little faster to heal naturally, to the point that I could even see a little bit of his flesh rebuilding itself, however, it was very little, but it was still incredible! What would happen if he absorbed some healing energy every day? At some point would he not just become immortal?" Patrick said, a lot more excited than he normally was. At some point he had already considered that little imp as if it were his own, even if he needed to pay rent for it. And of course Patrick would gladly pay this rent, since with that strength and potential he could try to invade Rank E Fortresses with the little imp he was thinking of some name to give.

Noah's mind was in shock. He hadn't thought about the possibility of his imps absorbing divinity yet. He believed that making imps learn from mistakes was already incredible, increasing their potential to possibly become top of Rank E, or maybe even Rank D because of the best use of strength and tactics they could have. But if what Patrick had said was true, the potential of these little guys was much greater than he had imagined.

Noah heard Patrick's full description of the Fortress and told him to come to his house immediately, which Patrick quickly accepted and said he would go as soon as possible. Noah wanted to see for himself what a change that little imp had undergone.

He was anxious at that moment, so, summoning a small [Healing Flame], Noah ordered a pair of imps who were fighting to come to him.

The two stopped fighting and came to Noah obediently.

Extending the hand holding the [Healing Flame] to one of the imps, Noah ordered him to take the flame from his hand.

The little imp complied and Noah saw an incredible change. By the time he started to hold the flames in his hands, Noah could feel the amount of energy that flame was consuming even more than normal. It was already an energy-consuming skill, but now it had reached a much higher level.

But even though he had so much energy consumed, Noah felt from the mental link he had with the imp that the little creature was absorbing the general properties of that flame and adapting them to itself.

Luckily Noah had regenerated much of the energy he had spent during the day while watching the imps fighting each other and giving hints, so even though his amount of energy was being reduced like water through a sieve , Noah continued to provide energy to see how far this could go.

When half of his total energy had been spent by the imp that showed no sign of pain or of being satisfied with the flame's energy, Noah cut off the power supply to the flame and in a second it disappeared from the imp's hand, which now the imp was looking at his own hand as he searched for the flame he was holding for a few moments prior.

The imp turned to Noah with a sad look and said through the mental link that he had not been able to perform the task that had been attributed to him, thinking that the flame disappearing was his fault, that he had done something wrong that had caused that.

Noah reassured him, saying that it was not his fault, and that he should show what he had received by absorbing that flame.

But for that order, the goblin just tilted his head to the side, with clear confusion on his face, as he couldn't understand what Noah had said for a few seconds, until finally he used his little brain to try to understand the order of his master and with a little doubt he held out the hand that was holding Noah's flame and to the surprise of Noah and the imp that was next to them who was this imp's training partner, a little flame that looked an awful lot like [Healing Flames] popped in the palm of the first imp's hand.

Noah's eyes widened as his thoughts became euphoric. 'Hot damn! I knew there was more to this skill that was not described in the description, but who knew it would be this OP? It basically absorbed my ability just for the price of continuous high energy consumption.'

Comparing the flame itself with the flame that the imp was demonstrating, Noah could clearly see that the flame of the imp was several times weaker than his, weak to the point that he could only raise the temperature around it by a few degrees Celsius, in addition to the properties of its healing power being much weaker than Noah's.

While Noah's flame was able to heal his body from a state that had been badly burned by Leon's explosion to its peak state in a few seconds in exchange for consuming almost all of his energy, even if the little imp were to use all of his possible energy, all that he could do was speed up the healing process of wounds a little. But even though the effects were barely negligible, the possibilities that this opened up for Noah was even greater than he imagined.

Usually Fortresses were invaded by groups of 15 Blessed from different classes, so that they each could compensate for the others' weakness and increase the overall strength of the group.

And the number of imps that Noah could summon was exactly 15… If he could train each imp to have a different class, that would make him have 15 subordinates that could be compared to 15 Blessed Rank E currently, and if they stayed stronger, they could be comparable to 15 Blessed Rank D, or maybe even Rank C ... 15 blessed Rank C under his command. Only with this strength Noah could consider himself the greatest power in the city, without anyone but the government to be able say what he could or could not do.

He didn't have enough energy to provide flames or other skills to each of the imps in such an efficient way, and he couldn't just stay home all day training them without doing anything.

So at that moment, Noah's thinking changed. Instead of sending the imps to Fortresses to make money and exp, Noah wanted to send them to learn how to be Blessed, making money and exp would just be a consequence of them going to learn to fight and become stronger, and when he had leftover energy, Noah would use that to train them and make each of the imps more powerful.

When Patrick arrived, Noah realized that Patrick's imp had done the same thing as his imp had just done, he had taken the energy that was entering his body with healing properties and turning it into a healing property of his own.

Although it seemed the healing property was much weaker for Patrick's imp than the imp that had absorbed half of Noah's energy. Perhaps this was due to a compatibility issue, after all, absorbing a skill from hell must be much easier for the imps than absorbing a skill from another deity.

Noah wanted to make some of them absorb normal [Hell Flames], without the healing properties, to see what would happen. Would they be able to absorb without being burned and simply be purified by the flame? Or would they just burn to death?

Unfortunately for the little imps, the more Noah's mind worked to think of things to make them stronger, the more their image and his plans for them changed in Noah's mind.

The artificial demons went from a bunch of weak imps that could be useful in battle, to a bunch of weak imps that could make a lot of money and exp, to a bunch of potentially strong imps to become a cutting edge army, to a bunch of potentially very strong imps with varying powers, to their most recent form, the final form in Noah's vision: lab rat.
