Chapter 56 - Shocking Discovery

CHAPTER 56

Macy rolled her eyes innocently at her friend and even though Jade could not see her, she could very much guess what she was doing. "Well, I am not denying the fact that I like him."

"Oh my God. So blunt." Jade laughed at her. She never expected her to just agree or admit it outrightly.

"Oh, please. What about you and Xander? Still playing friendship cards?"

"This is different, Macy."

"Humor me, how so?"

"I am just allowing this to find out what his link with Anders Group is," Jade defended.

"Is that so? You like him, Jade. Just admit it."

"There is nothing to admit, Macy. No likey."

"I know you, girl."

"Hey, I think it's too early for that. No, I do not like him. Anyways just send me the files. They won't review themselves if we keep talking."

"Sly Jade. Okay, no worries. See you when I get back."

"Sure, do not take all day and admire our pretty boy, my regards to him though."

"Naughty. I will."

The call ended and Jade smiled to herself. She was happy that her friend was liking someone. It had been a long while since Macy actually dated a guy and just like herself, she was too engrossed with work she barely had any time for herself.

And if she liked Sky and was going for him, why wouldn't she support her. In fact, she decided to cheer them on. Unknown to both of them, Sky was already in a relationship and both ladies had no damn idea.

Minutes later, she got a call and saw that it was from you know who. They were not supposed to have any meeting in relations to the business deal, so why was he calling? Jade thought.

"Only one way to find out, I guess." She answered the call and greeted. "Hello, Xander."

"Hey, Quinn." Jade pulled the phone from her ears to check who it was that was calling. After asserting that it was indeed Xander, she returned the phone to its original position on her ear.

"Hiii." She drew her words, still confused by his change in attitude. What happened to calling her tigress and all. This was a change and she could not say she did not like it, she loved it.

"Are you free?"

"It is working hours, Xander. Of course, I am not free. Why?"

"Nothing much, I was just wondering if you would go take a bite with me. What say you, lunch at McDawn's?"

Wow!

Our Xander was actually trying and he was trying hard. She was impressed at his ability to catch on fast. She expected no less from the CEO of the Warner Corporation.

"Aren't you trying hard, Xander?"

"What can I say, I want a certain beauty to be my friend. The quicker I get that goal accomplished, the faster I can try and reach for the other one."

Jade was flushed no doubt. Just hearing him talk shamelessly, tsk…

"Fine, no need to tell me your future plans even though all your time should be invested in your company but I guess a bite won't hurt now would it?"

"Is that a yes?" Xander asked to confirm her words properly, to avoid situations of before from repeating itself. He had learnt t to just trust her words easily.

"What do you think?" He could sense she was teasing him but he planned on giving her a shock.

"I think you should wrap things up and come meet the dashing young man waiting in your parking lot."

"What?" Jade's eyes shot open at his words and she immediately left her seat and walked up to the window.

She saw him standing like a model at the side of the car, with his body leaned back against the car frame and legs crossed on each other while his left hand held his phone to his ears.

He planned on courting her the right way that she would be left with no choice but to agree and be his.

He wanted to cloud her every being, thoughts and dreams and let his name be her only watchword and he was going to achieve that, no matter how stubborn she was.

Jade smiled while shaking her head at him. "Boy, are you eager."

"Oh, you never know."

Her eyes widened again. She thought she had muttered that to herself, but he still heard it. "Dang!" She facepalmed herself and drew out a long hiss.

"Do not injure your pretty head, Quinn. I am not running. I would be waiting."

Once again, Jade was left speechless by his words again. How in the world did he know that she smacked her forehead?

'Mr Xander Warner, just who are you?' She pushed her thoughts to the back of her mind and quickly went to check if Macy had sent her the documents for her to review.

She saw a new mail from Macy and quickly checked to make sure she had all she needed.

"Finally, thanks, Macy."

She saved her work before calling her assistant to cancel all her appointments left for that day.

Judging from her past outing with Xander, she knew that lunch as he called it was going to take time that was why he told her to wrap things up.

Then just in case they did come back or not, she did not want to leave this halfway and have a lot of businessmen and women on her neck.

Nope. She even recalled she was to visit one of their cloth lines and see how business was. She heaved a deep sigh and arranged her bags before leaving.

This was going to be one hell of a lunch.

Within a few minutes since their call, Jade was already down and walking towards Xander at the parking lot.

He moved forward a bit to receive her and lightly pressed a kiss at the side of her face, then pulled away to compliment her looks.

"One word. Gorgeous."

"Thanks."

"Where is your car?" Xander asked absentmindedly. He ha been checking out the cars there hoping to pinpoint hers with ease, but he ran out of luck in doing so.

He just could not pinpoint which was hers and decided to ask after the failure.

Jade smiled shyly at him before revealing her answer. "None."

"What!" Xander stared at her with unbelieving blue eyes and that only made her giggle at his expression. "I don't get."

"Simple as it is. I do not own a car."

"But, you are…"

"I know. I like to keep it simple."

"Wow!" This was a shocking discovery for Xander.

"Yeah, don't be surprised though. If not that you demanded to do business with me directly, then my company would have no idea who the CEO is."

"Whoa! That is deep. Why if I may ask?"

"You may not." When she saw him frown, she smiled at him again."Okay, I would tell you. Only because you look cute frowning."

'Who would say I look cute frowning? Tsk just only my tigress huh, I guess she is not affected by my frown then. Good.'

"Anyways, there is no big reason though. I just did not want to be treated like an almighty rich kid. I just wanted to blend in."

"That was why you acted as your company's assistant financial manager and have your friend take control."

"Exactly."

"Hmm, impressive. I am liking you even more."

"Oh, please." Jade rolled her eyes at him and walked past him.

"It was no wonder I could not pinpoint which was yours. Your taste just isn't here."

"And what do you know about my taste?" Jade asked when she got to the door of the passenger's seat at the front.

"Oh, you would be surprised. I have a flare to get things right."

"Now all these talks about cars and position is getting me hungry. Shall we?"

"Let me get that for you." Xander quickly rushed to where she stood, wanting to help her but Jade raised her hand to stop him.

"That wouldn't be necessary, Xan. I can get it."

"Please, not on my watch. Now take a step back please, mademoiselle." She did as he instructed and he got the door for her, letting her enter before closing it and going to the driver's seat.

"Now, shall we?"

"We shall."

By evening the next day, Jade was seated in her living room, watching the news about the happenings in the other city when a call came through.

"Hello, Arctic."

"Good evening, boss."

"How are you?"

"Good as should be. You?"

"Perfect."

"Any update?" Jade asked, changing her once calm and caring tone to a serious one.

"Yes, there has been some recent happenings but not in Star Cross City though, but I think Zale is on the move and in search of you."

"Great, let him come and find me if he can."

"He won't be able to. Regardless, I would be out of the city for somedays."

"Why, what happened?"
