169 The Night Phase

*Bzzzzt*

"Ugh!" Linri slowly came to himself. He was inside a small white room. Where was this? Why did he wake up here? And for the love of god why the fuck that fluorescent light was so loud!?

He tried to remember what happened. He was playing the third round of Snow's game event. Then he was thinking about Ashley's background and he started to suffocate. Did he just have a panic attack? Did that mean he was eliminated from the game?

Linri checked his watch. It said it was the night phase and there was a notification asking if he wanted to use his ability. He did not know how much time he had left so he immediately clicked yes and picked Riku's name on it. He could think about all the useless questions like why did he faint later.

'Riku it's me Linri. What the fuck is this room?'

'Linri? How can u talk to me?'

'Thats not important'

'How do I even know u are the real Linri?'

'U were caught by a girl half naked in our room'

'...'

'Tell me what's with the room? Am I eliminated?'

'No, everyone has a room like that for night phase'

Phew! At least now he was sure that he wasn't eliminated for certain and the notification on his watch was not some weird bug.

'Tell me ur role'

'Baker'

'What does it do?'

'It makes people use their ability twice next night'

'Use it on me'

'okay'

'...'

'Wut?'

'Has someone ever told u that u were a gullible person?'

'No why?'

'Because u just told me ur role and its ability. What if I was a witch?'

'But didn't u say u were town?'

' U know how easy it is for someone to lie right?'

'Then what if I lied or a witch?'

'U wouldn't u are too righteous to stay silent when I asked witches to come out. So u are definitely town'

'...'

'Anyway, if I am not ded tomorrow follow my vote. The baddies won't let me stay alive for long knowing my role'

'okay'

'That simple?'

'Yeah'

'Y do u trust me so much?'

'Cuz we are roomies. U wouldn't kill ur roomie, right?'

'Who knows'

'Who do u suspect is a witch?'

'What gave u the idea that I had suspects in mind?'

'Ur bet with Ash'

'Smart'

'So?'

'Rondo, Jin and Ash'

'Y?'

'Rina is can't be one since she was the last person to unvote me, a pretty risky move for a witch if she really is one. Old Pervert would claim if he was witch since the poison is ineffective on him'

'My sis is definitely not a witch!'

'Keep believing that and it might become true'

'Y Ash?'

'She is too much like me and there is no way in hell that I would trust myself'

'...'

'Wut? We are talking facts here'

'U wouldn't say that if u saw how worried she was when she saw u collapse'

'Yeah right'

'That's true tho'

'U were friends with her right?'

'Yeah?'

'How would u describe her?'

'She keeps to her. If u don't bother her she won't bother u'

'What else? Where did she come from?'

'Idk'

'Such a help u are'

TIME IS UP!

The chatroom on his watch suddenly closed. Linri lifted up his head to see that the door to his room was open.

*Beep* *Beep*

Two notifications came to Linri's watch. Great! The day phase just started but he was already getting voted.

---

[You were attacked last night]

---

WTF! Linri closed to the notification to see the next one.

---

[You were attacked last night but someone protected you]

---

Okay, okay, okay, okay. Calm down Linri. He tried to calm himself as his fingers started to switch. He walked out of the room and looked around. The others were doing the same to see who was killed last night but everyone was perfectly fine.

"What's going on?" Riku asked as he scratched his head. Of course, he didn't want to see anyone die but wasn't it enforced according to the rules of the game? So how come everyone was here?

"I was attacked last night but it said someone protected me," Linri said. Keeping this a secret would not do him any good. If he did not come forward he was bound to be the prime suspect again.

"Isn't that a mighty fine coincidence?" Rina said as she squinted her eyes towards him.

"Why? Isn't that the perfect situation? I revealed my role so obviously, witches were threatened by me and tried to get rid of me. It turns out our townies also has someone who can protect others from a night kill so at worst he would reveal himself if you guys really decided to lynch me. So at this point, it should be confirmed that I am town. Also, since I used my ability on him and Riku still didn't die he should be confirmed as well. So instead of trying to antagonize me how about trying to get into my good books Ms flattest chest on earth?" Linri said sarcastically.

"You moth-"

"Ouch, my chest hurts. What will I ever do? Seems like I can't use my ability tonight to confirm other people" Linri said as he put his hand on his chest. The place which was burnt by Rina's lightning bolt. Honest to god he wasn't lying when he said it hurt. But he was alright with that amount of pain. Once you experience each and every bone on your body getting broken one by one this kind of pain feels like a mosquito bite. Linri then felt a hand on his shoulder.

"You alright?" asked Richard.

"As healthy as a horse. I think I might have passed because of overusing my brain. What can you do? Aside from me, everyone refused to use theirs" Linri said as he shook his head and throwing shade at others.

"Are you sure? I can break you out of here if you need medical attention?" Richard asked once more.

"Yeah, I am sure. I am honestly surprised that you were allowed to participate in this"

"If I weren't allowed to come in, I might have as well razed this place to the ground," Richard said as the dark aura appeared on him again. Because of the content of the messages, he could have really done that. Honestly, why would anyone think that was a good idea? Obviously, it worked in the game setting where Richard could be nerfed or stopped by admins if things got too out of hand but what about here? He was a mage who was centuries old for fuck's sake. Linri did not remember who said it but there was this phrase; be afraid of the old man from a profession where men die young.

Basically, if a person was able to grow old in a dangerous environment where people died left and right. It meant he was a badass, he was smarter than the smarties, tougher than the toughies and he always killed his adversary. That was why spartans respected the old. They were the war machines of their era and if a spartan soldier was able to grow old that should speak for how badass he was.

"Oh yeah, what's this place. You are the principal of this school so you should know about this right? It's not like someone could have something this big without anyone noticing" Linri asked the question on his mind. He did not know how much but they were pretty deep underground with all the stairs they took. If he tried to map this place, it would be like a giant ant nest. There wasn't any mention of this afterwards in the club either. I mean why would they question it? It was just an event only place and they didn't have any access to it once the event was over.

"An old Hanawa research facility. You can guess the contents right?" Richard asked meaningfully.

"Super soldier?"

"Yes and no. This was the place where they kept the supernatural beings they had caught and tested on them. If you had awakened your bloodline you might have felt the souls of the kitsunes died in this place but they weren't the only beings kept here. There were onis, dodomekis, vermillion birds et cetra"

"Are you serious?"

"Why did you think they banned anything related to myths during the WW II? It was because they were also fighting a secret war against the supernatural beings at the time. Honestly, it was their fault for believing humans were the rulers of the earth with their measly strength. Just because a tiger doesn't kill a mouse it doesn't mean it's afraid of it"

Linri was surprised by Richard's explanation. There was something like that? He wasn't a history geek so he wasn't sure if this was also a thing back in his own world. But weirdly enough it fit the idea of them believing they were the superior race even among the humans so it didn't come off as that much of a surprise to him. Wasn't there also another race like that?

"What about Greater German Reich? Did they also do the same thing?"

Linri asked this question because from the history books he read during his birthday it had said they had won in the second world war. Remembering their history from back in his own world Adolf Hitler was also a firm believer of his race's superiority to others.

"Hm? Of course not! Hitler did the opposite and instead got help from the supernatural beings of Europe. Didn't you pay any attention to Zave's lessons?"
