122 Calm Before The Storm

"Eris!" I jerk awake, startling Kian who was still sleeping next to me. He tightens his arms around me and pulls me close before asking "What's wrong? Did you have a bad dream?" I find comfort in his arms as I try to blink away my sleep infused confusion.

I could have sworn I heard someone calling me... Kian trails his fingers down my bare back, making my skin tingle and warm at his touch. I relax against his bare chest as I say "As much as I'd like to stay in bed with you all day, I need to start working on a way to find my father and brother."

Kian groans a little before placing a kiss on my bare shoulder and saying "Let's work together to find them and put a stop to the hooded demon. Now that Enzo is dead, we have one less thing to worry about."

I crawl out of his arms and sit up. I slip on my shirt with a frown and say "I'm not completely sure Enzo's dead... The Dragon did attack him and if it was anyone else, they'd be dead but this is Enzo we're talking about."

Kian slowly sits up with a deep frown on his face and says "You're right... unfortunately. I guess I was hoping the Dragon took the bastard out." A black mist slowly seeps out of him before his image shudders for a second.

He pulls the blanket back and stands up, completely dressed in all black, looking fine as hell... meanwhile, I'm still just in a shirt looking like death warmed over. I sigh and quickly get cleaned up and dressed.

When walking to the kitchen, I can't help but pause at the table when I see a large pizza sitting on the table. Binx digs into the pizza with a swishing tail but I can't help but feel a little uneasy. Kian walks around the corner with a cup of coffee but when he sees me just standing there, he pauses in concern and asks "Are you okay?"

I blink and strain to smile as I ask "Who's idea was it to order pizza?" Binx lifts his head and says "Mine! No one around here is feeding me anymore so I have to survive somehow." He gives me an accusing glare before going back to his pizza. The pizza I now see is covered in sardines.

I relax a little and take the offered coffee as I mumble "See? This is normal... I should have known something was off when I was able to eat a whole pizza uninterrupted." Kian frowns at me in confusion before I smile and wave him off saying "Nothing, don't worry about it."

Suddenly, my phone starts ringing. I reach over and pick it up to see that it's Harris. "...." I stare at the phone before answering it. "What's up, Harris?" He snorts into the phone and says "I was about to ask you the same damn thing! What the hell's on your house!? I can't take a step closer without the damn thing growling at me!"

I frown in confusion before walking over to the front door and opening it to find Harris standing in the driveway looking up. My frown grows as I hang up the phone and walk out to the driveway. I turn around and look up.

When my eyes meet a pair of golden-red eyes, I feel my jaw nearly hit the ground! The Dragon!! And he's... he's small... and perched up on the roof like a freaking owl or something. Harris continues to stare at the thing in disbelief as I say "That would be a Dragon...."

I clear my throat a little before calling up to it and saying "I said you were free... you can go anywhere you'd like." The owl sized Dragon looks unbothered as he says "I like it here." Kian walks over and looks up at the Dragon with a smirk and says "He kinda looks like a small gargoyle up there."

I can't help but feel the same way as the Dragon says "I left something in your possession. I feel like it's safer with you so as long as it's with you, I will stay here and help keep you safe." He goes back to staring off into the distance with a bored look as I frown in confusion.

Left something with me? What does he mean? Kian looks pleased with the new house addition as Harris looks between the Dragon and me with confusion and awe. Wait... does he mean his heart? My eyes snap back up to the Dragon but he continues to stare off into the distance, completely ignoring us.

It's true that I never gave it back to him... why does he feel it's safer with me!?! I'm a walking disaster! I shake my head before turning back to Harris and asking "What's going on? Why are you looking for me?"

Harris struggles to look away from the Dragon as he says "A church was lit on fire last night and because no one can put the fire out, I'm guessing it was demon fire." I sigh and say "Let's go." Harris looks back to the Dragon a few more times before we all load into his car.

My car was still looking like a recycled tin can in my driveway. The car drive over to the church was silent until we pull up to what's left of the burning building. Harris turns the car off before saying "Something was left in the church but no one can get close enough to it... I have a feeling you won't have the same problem though."

I step out of the car and shut the door as I look at all the firefighters standing around the burning church with despair. Kain steps up and places his hand on my lower back before leaning down and placing his lips against my neck.

He lightly kisses me before saying "Be careful" I nod my head and give him a small smile before walking over to the church. As I walk up to the firefighters, Harris shows his badge and says "Let her go" The firefighters step back but look on in concern as I walk up to the burning ashes.

As soon as my foot steps down on the burning ash, the fire quickly jerks back, instantly dying down.
