Chapter 1311 - The Return

Yan Su sighed.

Shi Xiang was less bothersome. It was Mo Liuxi she couldn’t bear to see or be around.

If she bumped into him now, it would be like adding salt on her fresh wounds.

“Another thing…” Xiang Wan said. “Director Li said the movie had been nominated for an award at the Venice Film Festival, so you’ll be going to Venice as well. It’s a great opportunity. Many would kill to be in your shoes. I don’t know how you got so lucky to have this land in your lap so soon after giving birth.”

“Oh?” Yan Su was shocked. “How come I haven’t seen anything about this in the news?”

“Insider information. The reporters haven’t heard about it yet.” Xiang Wan smiled and continued, “But I have to say you’re one lucky girl. The red carpet at these sorts of events is always highly recognized, and there will be lots of reporters there. I have to give it to Director Li, and Mo Liuxi… that young man is only 21 years old.”

Yan Su was awash with complicated feelings at the mere mention of his name.

She was bitter, yes. But she was helpless, too. She pouted and said, “I don’t think Mo Liuxi played a big part in being nominated at the film festival. He’s not even the co-director…”

Xiang Wan rolled her eyes. “Director Li’s team is composed of elites. Do you think he could have wrapped up a film within months and end up getting nominated at such a prestigious event? It just proves he has a team of highly efficient workers who produce quality work. He couldn’t have done it on his own. Besides, Mo Liuxi won numerous awards for his work previously; the public isn’t easily fooled. There are a lot of producers waiting to work with him. It’s only a matter of time before he gains traction and more recognition.”

Yan Su sighed.

What a remarkable guy. She would have been very happy for his success if they were still together.

Too bad…

The two of them hated each other now.

Xiang Wan patted her on the shoulder. “Take your time to recuperate during your confinement. I’ll be waiting eagerly for your triumphant return.”

Yan Su tried to hold back her chuckles.

Was that how you would describe a triumphant return?

Late that night, Yan Su managed to get Yan Yan to sleep.

She was sitting on the edge of her bed, watching her baby with concentration. She was like a porcelain doll, with flawless skin and beautiful little features.

She even had dimples and looked especially sweet whenever she gurgled.

Tears welled up in Yan Su’s eyes at the thought of having to go back to work.

“Yan Yan is asleep?” Jiang Peiying tiptoed into the room.

“Yeah.” Yan Su quickly lowered her head and wiped away her tears.

Jiang Peiying sighed and sat down beside her and said, “You can’t bear to be away from Yan Yan?”

Yan Su was silent.

“Susu, your father and I have been talking this for the last few days. How would you feel about walking away from the entertainment industry?” Jiang Peiying lowered her voice. “I know you want to earn money, but we’re doing all right. We can afford to raise this child and provide good enough conditions…”

“Ma, I have to stay strong,” Yan Su looked up at her. “I’ve already gotten my university degree. I want to make good use of it. Besides, I have no skills other than singing. It wouldn’t be easy to pick up something new. I don’t want to live off of your guys, either. I’ve brought too much shame to both of you. I want to be your pride and joy.”

Jiang Peiying finally nodded her head after thinking a long while. “All right. We’ll bring Yan Yan back to our old place. I’ll take care of her, along with Aunty Wu. Jin loves her as well. When she’s a little older, I’ll ask Aunty Wu to bring her to you to stay together.”

Yan Su couldn’t say a word. She hugged her mother tightly.

It was October, and the air in Xia City was still hot and humid.

Yan Su took a flight back to Xia City, and Jiaojiao picked her up in her car. “Susu, welcome back.”

“It’s been a long time.” Yan Su stepped forward and gave her a big hug. Are you still willing to come back as my assistant?” she asked.
