186 Scheming Halfbreed

Inside the condo unit Wang Reiji rented for Gianna, only the sound of keyboard typing can be heard. Though it was almost noontime and the sun was already at its highest position in the sky, Hanzo did not allow any of its rays to penetrate the room. He sealed the windows with thick curtains for he felt more at ease working in a dark place especially when he cannot get any information about his target. 

Frustrated, he picked up another cigarette, his seventh for the day. When he was about to lit the stick up, the door of the condo unit burst open. Hanzo paused for a moment before he carried on with lighting his cigarette stick. 

"The stench of nicotine is so strong! Have you lost your mind? If you are going to smoke,  at least open the windows and allow some fresh air to get in!" Annoyed, Gianna barged in straight to her condo unit and pulled open the curtains, allowing the sun to stream, illuminating the place. 

"Tsk! Can't this guy work in peace? And why are you here already? Aren't you on a special task right now? Hey, don't tell me you are slacking, Gianna!" Hanzo seemed not much affected by Gianna's actions as he remained sitted on the floor with his eyes glued on the laptop screen. After producing two hazy rings of smoke, his fingers started moving to type the codes he needed to gain access to a government owned database. He was about to key in the last string of codes but Gianna forcefully close his laptop. 

"You!" 

"And what if I am already here? As far as I can remember, Big sis rented this unit for me. She told you to stay with her secretary, didn't she?"

"I know that! But her secretary did not pick me up. Besides, I have an urgent task for the boss. So, can you please be considerate of me just this time?" Desperation flashed in Hanzo's eyes as his gaze met with Gianna's. He then quickly lifted up his laptop and stood up from the floor and sat on the couch.

Gianna wanted to infuriate Hanzo more but she recalled that the task he was doing was for big sister Reiji. She hesitantly shelved the idea of provoking Hanzo before she walked towards the windows, reluctantly  pulling the curtains down. She then quietly ambled away from the living room and into her bedroom.

Noticing that the cold hearted chick did not argue with him anymore, Hanzo sucked into the cigarette with relief before he yelled, "Thank you!" He then fixed his eyes on his laptop screen and continued typing codes to gain access to databases and government sites. 

"Have you eaten lunch?" Gianna peeked at Hanzo through the gap of her door and its frame.

"I'm not hungry yet. Besides, I have to finish this task for Boss Reiji." Hanzo replied without getting his eyes off the screen of his laptop. 

Gianna's eyebrow slightly arched. Was Hanzo now aiming to become the boss' favorite subordinate? That she must not allow!

"Okay, since you are doing this for big sister Reiji, the generous me shall cook you lunch so you can eat while you work on your task." Gianna then stepped out of her bedroom and grabbed the apron hanging on the coat rack.

"Though I don't like you much as a teammate, I have no choice but to aid you since we are working under one boss." Gianna added as she slid the apron over her head and wrapped its strings around her waist. She then opened the door of the refrigerator and scanned the names of the neatly arranged items inside. Pausing for a short while,  she took out some onion, brocolli, mushroom, and avocado. She then placed the items on the tabletop before she reached for the cornstarch and canned chicken meat on the cupboard. 

'Looks like this woman's planning to sabotage my task! She started to care all of a sudden!' Hanzo thought to himself when Gianna became unexpectedly thoughtful.

"You! How dare you doubt my generosity? Hmp! As I've said, we both serve under one boss so me lending you a hand is something not to be suspicious about." Gianna rolled her eyes at Hanzo before she opened the faucet and washed the vegetables clean under the running water.

"If you really want to help me, how about you buy me another pack of cigarettes?" Hanzo was still not buying Gianna's words. He was really sure that the cunning halfbreed was up to no good. 

"Okay." Gianna then halted what she was doing before she untied the strings of the apron and took the garment off. 

"Be back in five minutes." She did not wait for Hanzo's reply and went out of the condo unit.
