Chapter 213 - Feeling exhausted

Gu Yan left the hospital and walked alone on the street. She was depressed and upset.

“Gu Yan, don’t worry too much. Take good care of yourself. If Xiangyan recuperates, I’ll tell you immediately.”

Gu Yan picked up the phone to read Mo Yichen’s message. She was lost in thought again. Suddenly, someone grabbed her by the arm so that she could not take a step.

“Red light!”

A young, handsome man warned Gu Yan. His eyes were as warm and bright as the sun, which fascinated her. Gu Yan seemed to see Mo Yichen in his eyes. The man pointed at the traffic lights in front of them and then cast a glance at the phone in Mo Yan’s hand. Standing on tiptoe, he sighed, “Another phubber. It’s too dangerous.”

Gu Yan was startled and she stared at the man, feeling confused. Then she looked in the direction he pointed and noticed the shining traffic lights in the distance. She finally understood what happened.

“Thank you. Thank you so much.” Gu Yan nodded with gratitude and then looked away quickly, awkward.

She was indeed worn out these days. She took care of Xiangyan in the hospital day and night. She thought what she did could change slightly Li Yunhong’s attitude towards her. But she never expected that things would change halfway. It seemed that all her efforts were in vain.

The more she thought, the more upset she felt. She didn’t want to go home and decided to work in the studio to pass time.

She took a taxi to the studio, listless.

Seeing Gu Yan coming to the studio, employees in the studio pretended to be occupied. They stopped chatting, drinking water and playing games and rushed to their desks, as if they were working hard.

They thought Gu Yan would be furious. Out of their expectation, Gu Yan just looked around and went directly to her office, speechless. Seeing that Gu Yan did not get mad, the employees felt relieved.

“Hello, President Gu.”

The employees greeted Gu Yan politely with smiling faces.

However, Gu Yan was indifferent to their greetings. The employees thought Gu Yan was in a sulk and didn’t dare to say anything.

Sitting in her office, she glanced at the pile of documents on the desk and frowned. She didn’t go to work these days and the documents heaped up. She had to work overtime.

Gu Yan picked up the documents and checked them one by one. But she was still absent-minded and found it difficult to concentrate on her work. She put them aside and tried to sober up.

However, all kinds of thoughts ran through her mind.

Was Li Yunhong disappointed at her? What was Li Yunhong’s attitude towards her? Would she still be nice to her like that day?

Would Chen Qian take good care of Xiangyan in the hospital? Did she go to the hospital voluntarily? Or did Li Yunhong tell her to do so?

Those questions haunted Gu Yan. But she couldn’t solve any of them.

Gu Yan scratched her ears and cheeks fretfully. She kept persuading herself to calm down and take a deep breath.

When her own son was sick and needed her around, she could do nothing. This made Gu Yan feel more upset.

All kinds of emotions gathered in her minds and she could not figure out her true feeling. Was she happy, sad, sorrowful or painful?

In the office, Gu Yan drank some water, checked the messages on her phone and thought about those problems. Sometimes she cheered up and browsed through the documents. Finally, she got through the short but boring morning.

“President Gu, let’s do lunch.”

Assistant Liu knocked on the door and said in a soft voice. She popped her head around the door with excitement.

“President Gu, President Gu…”

Seeing that Gu Yan did not respond, she called her name again. At the same time, she stretched her hands to attract Gu Yan’s attention.

“What? What did you say?”

“President Gu, it’s time for lunch. Let’s do lunch.”

Assistant Liu repeated her words. Her mischievous manner made Gu Yan laugh.

“No, I don’t want to eat anything. I’m checking the documents now. I’ll do launch later.”

Gu Yan put down the documents and looked at Assistant Liu who acted cute.

“Hmmm…”

“President Gu, did something happen to you? I can give you advice if you confide to me.”

Assistant Liu pouted and didn’t want to leave. She regarded Gu Yan as her friend, not merely her boss.

“I’m just a little tired recently. I’ll be all right after a short rest.”

“Would you like me to bring you some food?” Assistant Liu asked with concern.

“No, thank you. I’ll have lunch later.”

“OK.”

Other employees were gossiping. Assistant Liu shrugged and walked away. Looking at Gu Yan who was busy with work, she was a little worried.

“President Gu is not herself today.”

“She even doesn’t want to have launch with us. She must have something on her mind.”

“Maybe she is just too occupied with those documents since she didn’t come to the studio for a few days.”

Assistant Liu and other employees went downstairs to lunch, talking and laughing. However, they all concerned about Gu Yan and kept looking back at her from time to time.
