Chapter 159: To the rescue

"Why do I find her familiar even though we've never met before?"

Elliot saw a tomboy standing in the middle of the team of nine, and after he used the power of his godly right eye to know more about her, his eyes widened like saucers, surprise and shock filling every part of his body.

The young tomboy wasn't a kingdom toppling beauty, and she was undoubtedly below the likes of girls like Lisa and Nina. Still, Elliot failed to tear his eyes away from her.

He kept on looking at her intensely, not because he was interested in her, not that she wasn't beautiful enough, but because she was the younger sister of Florence Love!

Looking at the change in his master's eyes and seeing him stand up to his feet, the horrifying mandrake couldn't help but ask, "Master, are you finally going to intervene?"

"Yes, I can't let that tomboy die." Elliot gave it a nod in response.

"Damn, I can't lose my focus now," said Lucy Love as her vision blurred, tiredness and exhaustion washing over every fiber of her being, nearly causing her to collapse.

"Pa!" She slapped her face so harshly that her cheeks turned bright red, but the blurriness in her eyes vanished.

Her act surprised the others, but they weren't ones to complain, not to mention they lacked the strength and reason to do so.

"Guys, think of something fast." Lucy Love said, sweat dripping down her forehead and slipping into the crack in between her breasts. Not only was her magic energy running low, but she also didn't even have any magic crystal to restore it. It was safe to say that she only had enough energy to use her superpower one last time.

Oliver Charlotte could tell that she would not be able to last any longer, that he needed to do something soon.

"Lucy, buy me some time," Oliver said as he hurriedly pulled out the last of his magic crystal and put it in his mouth. The moment his saliva touched the surface of the crystal, it melted into streams of energy that went down his throat and into the pit of his stomach.

"I am doing my best!" Lucy said.

"Bang!" As the panthers continued their onslaught, large cracks appeared on the holy shield.

"Damn! At this rate, the shield will break within a minute," Julian, one of the three females, said while breathing raggedly because of exhaustion and tiredness.

"I don't even have enough magic energy to activate my powers." Julian's cousin, a hot girl with a nice pair of peaches and melons at just the right places, said the very next moment, a dire look on her face.

"Lucy, hurry up and reinforce the shield." Oliver Charlotte commanded, a desperate look on his face. He needed several more minutes to restore his magic energy to the brim. Only then will they have a chance to fight back.

Honestly, Lucy was finding it hard to keep going on, but she held on as her will to live was quite strong.

"I am on it," she gritted her teeth, and her supernatural cells sucked the last bit of magic energy present in her body to activate her superpower.

"Holy Magic: Reinforcement!" After she uttered the necessary incantation that her supernatural ability demanded, waves of golden energy surged out from her raised hands and poured into the holy shield, healing all of its cracks as well as reinforcing it.

However, the nightmare panthers attacked even more furiously, this time with their abilities. Black thunder, claw-shaped energy attacks, and many other forms of attacks rained down on Lucy's holy shield, bringing it to the brink of destruction in the blink of an eye.

When that happened, Lucy suffered a huge backlash, enough to cause her to puke out a mouthful of blood.

However, she continued to overexert her supernatural cells, using her willpower to reinforce the holy shield, not allowing it to shatter into pieces.

Of course, Oliver and the others could tell that her cells were absorbing her vitality to do that, meaning she was losing her life and inching closer to death protecting them!

"You'll die at this rate," Julian said, tears appearing in her eyes.

"Lucy, stop it," Oliver Charlotte said, commanding her to stop using her ability.

"Then, what?" Lucy only said two words because she didn't have the strength to say more than that.

Then, what?

Sure, they might die under the claws of the beasts, but Oliver wasn't willing to let her die by using up her lifespan to protect them.

"I don't know, but I promise that they will have to go over my dead body to get to you guys!" Oliver said, "So stop it, please!"

The majority of the nine wanted her to stop, but some didn't, and that included Lucy, herself!

She didn't want to die!

She wanted to fall in love at least once!

But now, it seems as if it was too late!

Damn, I shouldn't have come to explore this hellhole! Lucy regretted her decision as her vision dimmed and several strands of her golden hair turned white.

"Sorry," Lucy said weakly, and then exhaustion kicked her consciousness out of her body, causing her to collapse towards the ground.

Oliver grabbed her in one hand, through, and then looked towards the beasts that only needed to strike a few more times to break the holy shield.

"Brace yourself!" Oliver Charlotte said in a grim voice.

"Get ready to carve a way through them!" A man behind him said, and at the same time, wisps of fire surged out of his greatsword.

The people behind him raised their weapons, knowing full well that the chances of making out alive from this situation were slim but still intent on trying till their last breath.

"This isn't anime, bruh! You guys aren't going to get anywhere with the power of bullshit! I mean friendship!"

Just when the cracks spread all over the holy shield, signifying that another hit would cause it to shatter apart, a calm but taunting voice came from above their heads.
