Chapter 144: The real danger (b)

A moment ago, Elliot felt death creeping up to him, and thus, he instinctively jumped out of the way of danger. To his surprise, lightning surged down the clouded night sky, striking the place where he once stood.

"Swoosh!"

Although he had jumped out of the trajectory of the dark lightning, a part of it still diverged from the main body, taking the shape of a furious lightning bolt that came charging towards his legs to cripple him as if it carries a will of its own.

Everything happened in a fraction of a second, so fast that not only was he caught by surprise, but he didn't even have ample time to defend himself too.

It looked like today he would get to taste pain once again, one far worse than the times before.

"AWOO!!"

Just as it looked like he would lose his legs, Kayn, the strongest among Elliot's undead creatures, jumped in between them, using its flesh as a shield and taking the lightning bolt for the sake of its master well being.

BAM!

The lightning bolt crashed on its lower body, burning half of its body to a crisp in the blink of an eye and blasting it towards Elliot with such high speed and force that it looked like a rocket fired from a launcher.

He raised his hands and grabbed the undead into his embrace as he didn't want it to suffer any more damage than it already had. "What the hell?!" The moment he did so, though, he felt as if a rocket had crashed on his chest.

He was nearly pushed off his feet, but he stomped them on the ground. His feet that were pressing against the ground left skid marks that stretched for dozens of meters. After which, he finally came to a halt.

He didn't even get a chance to release his breath before his sixth sense sent a signal directly to his brain. The hair on the back of his neck stood up once again, notifying him that death was on its way to get him. He immediately turned around and made a run for it.

Boom!!

Bam!!

The rich smell of burnt flesh was vivid in the air, coming out from the poor creature in his hand. Nauseating but sweet, that's what Elliot thought as an intense lightning suddenly struck the tree behind him, splitting it in two.

Right after, the blue streak of lightning disappeared, but not before discharging lightning bolts towards him!

"This place is messed up. even lightning have a soul and a will of their own!" Elliot cursed as he dodged them all and ran towards safety, trying to get out of the range of the dark clouds with lightning surging within them.

The dark clouds painted most of the sky of this forest in the veil of night and stretched for hundreds of miles. The arcs of lightning were strong in the areas with thick bundles of dark clouds. However, there weren't any in places with little to no dark storm clouds. The interval at which they were cascading down from the sky varied from place to place.

Elliot ran towards the nearest place with only a few storm clouds in the sky, but even that place was miles away from him. On his way, many arcs of lightning descended from the sky and came towards him, intending to end his life, but he always managed to move out of harm's way. It's all because of his sixth sense. He asked about it from the voice in his head, and it told him that it is an effect brought by the mutation of his soul, which happened when the godly matrix became one with his soul.

He had gained a sixth sense that allows him to sense death!

It triggers when he is about to die. It wasn't different than the aches one feels in their knees when it is about to rain.

Is it because he wasn't a human but a demi-human and a semi-god? Is that why he gained this type of sixth sense?

He didn't know!

Well, whatever it was, it was good for him, and that's all that matters, especially at this moment.

He abused his sixth sense to get out of his sticky situation.

While carrying his undead creature, he ran at the top of his speed, and eventually, the distance between him and the safe zone lessened.

After running like a dog for a very long time, he finally got to safety! It was an area with only three dark storm clouds.

"Finally!" He finally got the chance to breathe.

The adrenaline level dropped as he got out of danger, and then tiredness and pain came crashing down, assaulting his senses.

Elliot's legs gave out, and he dropped to the ground, breathing raggedly.

<Stamina: 2 units> He was exhausted to the point of having a relatively tiny amount of stamina and also had a sweat-drenched back. Heck, his entire body was sweaty.

"Thanks for putting yourself at harm for my sake," Elliot said while looking at Kayn.

There weren't many people in his life that helped him. Before today, he could've never thought that an undead beast would help him, even though he didn't give an order.

It helped him out of its own free will, and this came as a huge surprise to Elliot.

The undead creature raised its head to look at him.

Its big eyes showed happiness. It was happy to be able to help its master. Because of the formation of its soul, it has started to gain emotions, one of them being joy.

"You're a brave creature and a loyal one at that! Even though we belong to different races and I am your master, I promise to treat you like my family from now on!" Elliot said as the undead creature snuggled up to his chest, whimpering slowly.

He patted it on the head and looked at it with a gaze far gentler than before. "I will treat you better in the future," he said.
