Chapter 23: No Longer the weakest!

The morning skies of Xavier weren't the least bit bright, unlike Earth. This world had two moons and only half a Sun. It was no wonder that it didn't have summer, and winter lasted for more than half a year. The half Sun wasn't allowed to warm the world a lot. Even at this time of the day, in which students were walking to the academy to attend classes, the moon and the clouds were blocking half of the sun.

"You can attend many classes in the academy, each on a different topic and teaching a distinct subject. The most famous subjects are Combat, Alchemy, and Magic Chef. It is up to you to decide which ones you want to attend." Instructor Leo announced to the students.

"We understand, sir!"

Classes for today weren't important exactly as the teachers only introduced themselves and talked a bit about the subjects which the students can study in the Magician Academy before allowing the students to do as they wish.

"Is that it?" Elliot felt a bit disappointed as he didn't come across anything important during the classes today.

The reason for his disappointment wasn't because he didn't learn anything useful on the first day of the academy but because he didn't come across something that will activate a trial.

Once the artifact of the Northern Duke of Dark Starlight, now a part of his body, issues trials only when certain situations present themselves to him.

Trials are issued by the artifact when someone gives him a specific task to complete or if he is in a sticky situation. For example, he was the weakest magician in history, a pretty sticky situation in a world where the weak are bullied and disdained, so he had gotten a trial that helped him to become stronger. Similarly, the following trials had only started a moment after instructor Nina announced the task they needed to complete to pass the entrance examination.

So, Elliot determined that he needed someone to hand out a specific task for him to complete to start a trial, or he needed to come across a personal situation. It could be an instructor telling him to learn something or meeting someone like one of his old bullies who would try to abuse him.

"There must be a place in the academy where someone is handing out a specific task. I should look for it. The trials are the only way for me to obtain the remaining parts of the Challenger Key that will allow me to enter God's Tower." Elliot said in his mind as he stepped out of the classroom. The God's Tower was something he was extremely curious about, a place he wanted to enter as soon as possible. However, he needed to get the last two pieces of the Challenger Key first, and only then he will be able to create the key which will grant him entry to God's Tower.

For that, he needs to activate a trial somehow and complete it by giving it his all.

Elliot walked down the stairways, stepped into the hallways of the main building, and made his way through them in a hurry, trying to search for something or just about anything that will help him start a trial, but to his dismay he found nothing. So, he stepped out of the main building and stepped on a round pathway with many stone archways on the side and a wall on the other.

While walking through a vacant path with only a few lights on, he came across a teenage boy with a head full of dark brown hair curled up in a fetus position being kicked in the guts by his old bully, Alexander.

<Trial "No Longer the Weakest" has been issued>

<Defeat Alexander and show him that he can no longer suppress and torture you or the other>

<Rewards: 50 units of the essence of life, Upper section of the Challenger Key, The Right to use the Authority of Life on Alexander>

"You've got to be kidding me." Elliot laughed in a low, voice standing a few meters away from John and Alexander, thinking that he was lucky to have received such a trial.

He wanted to get even with Alexander ever since he awakened, but he hadn't encountered him till now.

The moment he did, he received a trial to beat his ass in order to get rewards.

Now, he will not only feel better from beating him black and blue but also get rewarded!

What a lucky day!

What a great world!

"Please let me go," John begged Alexander with a pitiful look on his face.

"I told you to hand me your quantum card, so why didn't you just obediently handed it over to me? Do you think I'm a joke? Or had you forgotten you're merely a Hollow, a slave that can be roughed up by awakened magicians, like, me, after joining the Magician Academy?" Alexander angry voice boomed out. He was pissed off by what Silas did to him yesterday, and now he was venting his anger on John.

"Please just take my card and let me go," John said in a shaky voice as he took out his quantum card and raised it towards Alexander.

"Don't you dare tell me what to do!" Alexander said as he launched an attack amplified by his wind ability towards the messed-up boy.

John's eyes closed in terror as he feared for his life, knowing full well that he would be severely injured if Alexander's fist with wind wisps swirling around it connects with his body.

"Alexander, give it a rest, will ya."

Just as his fist was going to hit John's head, a voice sounded in their ears before a hand made out of the essence of life grabbed Alexander's fist, stopping it an inch away from hitting John.

"What? Who the hell has enough strength to stop my fist empowered by my ability so easily?" Alexander's eyes widened in surprise, and he turned to look at the source of the voice almost immediately, only to see Elliot, the weakest magician, looking down at him, disdain vivid in his eyes.
