Chapter 138 - Following The Instructions

Lena read through the instructions one more time. Taking them in carefully to make sure that there was nothing she had missed from reading them the first time. Two hours felt like it would be more than enough time, but that as basing it off the fact that she didn't expect the warehouse or whatever type of building that they were in to be that large.

"Princess, what do you think the best course of action to take would be?" Romeo was the first one to speak up after she remained silent once the instructions were read.

"I'm not sure that it would be the best idea for us to split up since we don't know where are or what to expect." He continued, stopping only when she raised her hand to let him know that she wanted to speak.

"Based upon how Jovani is running this, I don't think we have much of a choice or say over this. I'm not anymore thrilled than either of you two are to be splitting up but it doesn't really seem like there's much of a choice." Lena replied as she folder the paper back up and put in her pocket.

"Since it would appear to be based after chess, the nest place to start would be moving in the way that chess pieces move across the board. Clive would be the bishop and Romeo you're the night. Me being the queen would mean that there isn't much limitations to the way that I can move." She looked around the building as she said this. There didn't really seem like there were any other clues to help her out in as to what direction that she should go in.

"If that is the idea we are working from, then it would be safe to presume that young sir Samuel would perhaps be the king, the piece that needs protection and the end goal would lead us to him." Clive surmised as he tried to consider everything that he had just read.

"That would seem to be the case. But protecting him would probably only be possible within the two hour limit that he gave us. What happens after that I don't want to find out." The princess replied as she turned away from the coffee table.

The only other way to head in the room was a door that was placed near the right corner. She presumed that it was after they went through this door that they would be required to split up to find their clues and complete whatever tasks Jovani was going to assign to them.

Not feeling that there was really anything else to discuss, she made her way over to the door to open it wanting to waste as little time as possible since they didn't know what to expect next. Clive and Romeo followed closely behind, both on alert as she opened the door.

As she had expected it lead to another large room which had three doors at the end. One in the middle, one on the right, and one on the left. She tsked as she saw this. Someone had certainly gone through a lot of trouble to convert this warehouse into something more secure. Outside of the little game that they were being forced to play, she presumed that it was done to throw off any potential intruders who thought that they could sneak inside.

"Well. It seems like we each get to pick a door. Since you two know which way you're supposed to go, I will chose the one in the middle." She told them as she looked between the three of them. It felt a bit too obvious, but she was sure there were something extra behind each door that they would have to deal with.

"Before that though, make sure that each of your phones are working in case we need to get in touch." She told them as she pulled her own phone out of her pocket.

As she made sure that she could text the other two, she noticed that she had gotten another text from Jovani as well which simply read 'Make sure as you're going through this you keep in mind the way a queen should move in order to protect the most important piece on the door.'.

She wasn't sure if it was supposed to be some type of hint or just something sent to annoy her, but either way she wasn't sure what he meant by that nor did she care to respond since she had something more important to take care of in front of her.

Clive and Romeo were both reluctant to take the other two doors that would lead them away from the princess they were supposed to protect, but since it was required to move forward, there wasn't much choice for them. Being able to text both and forth only helped them to feel slightly better.

Clive was the first one to leave the room, determining that it was better to do it slightly staggered in case anything unexpected happened. Once a minute had passed since he left, Romeo was the second one to leave making sure once more before he left that the princess would be safe.

Lena however didn't wait as long after Romeo left before she opened the door that she was supposed to go through. She didn't see any point in waiting since she was left on her own anyways. The lights in the room that she entered weren't as brightly light as the one she had just come from, but there was enough light for her to see where she was.

There were no doors in this room, only an entrance and two hallways leading in different directions. On the wall opposite of where she stood there was a stand that held another folded piece of paper much to her distaste.

Looking down each side hall as she came over to grab the piece of paper she couldn't help but think that it reminded her somehow of a building that would've been used for one of the many horror movies that she had watched while growing. Dimly light and unknown as though there would be something horrible lurking down one of the halls that could only exist in one's nightmare.

In the sense there was, but it wasn't the type of horror that took place in fictional movies. Because this type of horror was one where real people would die and wouldn't have any chance of defying the odds and coming back to life if something happened.
