Chapter 399 - Days MDCCCVII - MDCCCXXII, Part I

On the next day, I woke up and decided to not spend the points. Instead, I wanted to get more and upgrade one of the more pricy skills. After a breakfast consisting of junk food, I went hunting. This process repeated itself for fifteen days, and the effects were terrible. I didn't find a single ghost.

I did find some books though, which ended up being stored in my vault. I would continue looking for trouble in the abandoned Bahumdabars' cities, but then Will contacted me through the coin.

- Hey, Peter. Are you alive?

- Yep. Did something happen?

- Yes, and no. Nothing bad, just... Some military guys from America came and they asked me if I want to see my wife and kid. I said yes, and they will be here today. I want you to meet Dustin.

- Holy shit... that's... I'm on my way!

- Thanks! I knew I can count on you!

I dropped everything, and just shadow walked back to my room in the city. I didn't notice it back then, but the room changed. My window wasn't just a hole with shutters anymore, but normal ones with roller blinds.

From there I shadow walked past the wall, and ended up on the street.

- Where the hell are you? I'm close to the barracks - I spoke through the mark.

- I'm still in my office. Let's meet in the city center.

- Ok.

I rushed towards the agreed location, and then I witnessed a crowd of people in military uniforms with a guy, probably some kind of Capitan, yelling at them in a language I didn't understand.

"Army of India", I thought to myself.

I listened for a moment, and my 'Linguist' skills activated themselves. From that point, I could understand the language. I ignored it though, more focused on meeting with Will in this important for him moment.

I looked around to kill time, waiting for him. It was just something around two weeks, but the remaining buildings in the city center got renewed.

The soldiers started marching all of a sudden, heading towards the training grounds - that was my guess.

I made sure to be out of their way, then Will showed up, earning salutes from the military, for some reason unknown to me. As soon as he noticed me, he jogged forward.

- Hey.

- Good to see you, Peter - he extended a hand, and I shook it. - I'm nervous as hell...

- When will they be here?

- I'm not sure, but soon.

- Then why the hell are we still standing here? Let's go to the gate.

He nodded, swallowing his spit nervously. He clearly was a bit afraid of going there. I slapped him in the shoulder, to give him a bit of encouragement, and then started walking there. He followed. We got to the hall with the gate rather quickly.

The electricity was working, and lamps located under the ceiling were illuminating the space nicely. The whole thing had a bunch of people inside. A lot from India, but also many familiar faces. I noticed Hatta and Aisha talking with a group of men. Overall not too much, so there were no worries of Wil's family not noticing us in the crowd.

The place changed a bit. I noticed a few small offices boult inside, with glass walls allowing to see inside.

We found ourselves a spot and waited for the guests to show up.

- So... How the hell did they know about your wife?

- I don't know. To be honest, when they spoke to me, I was so shocked, that I didn't ask any questions.

I applauded him shortly.

- Great job.

- Shut up. I was shocked, ok? And now I'm nervous... I don't want to fuck up this, like last time.

- Last time your wife had no idea what happened to you and thought you just ran away, like an asshole.

- I ran with another woman, don't you remember? She knew that much.

- Well... Then you are fucked.

- Thanks. I can always count on a cheerful comment from you, Peter.

- What the hell do you want me to say? She will be angry, but she also will be curious. Not to mention your son, who will be at least ten times more curious. You should show him your sword party trick.

He just sighed.

- Thanks for showing up - he said after a moment of silence.

- Yeah...

We had another moment, and then Aisha showed up.

- Hi, Peter. I thought you were away...

- Now I'm back.

- Why? What are you two even doing here? Don't you have other things to do, Will?

- It's a family matter - I explained.

- Family?

- My family is visiting... Soon.

- Really?! Why didn't you say anything?

- Because I was freaking out! And now I'm freaking out even more!

- Ok, ok! Calm down. Everything will be ok! Just breathe... Should I throw you a party? We can manage to make something. There is still some time until evening.

- No... Yes! Do a party... Yes, a party!

I just shook my head. He was clearly losing his shit. I couldn't blame him after what happened.

I grabbed Aisha by the shoulder and gently moved her to the side.

- He is losing his shit. Throw him that party, and make sure everybody will show up, ok? I'll try to keep things here under control.

- Ok - she nodded and left.

I returned to Will and punched him in the chest. Not too hard, though.

- Get your shit together! Your son is coming and you want to show him this? - I moved my hand in front of him like I was presenting something. - He needs to see confidence. He needs to see his father. He needs to see a hunter! You dealt with hordes of monsters, and you are afraid of a woman and a child?

- Ok... Ok... - he said taking deep breaths, then he fixed his posture, puffin chest.

He immediately looked way more confident.

- See? You can do this! And remember, I'm here if something will go wrong. I will fix it, trust me.

- I trust you, Peter.

- Good - I said and assumed my position next to him.

We waited in silence for around half an hour, observing people moving through the gate. Coming in, and leaving.

And then they came.. Family of three, surrounded by two guys in black suits, and wearing sunglasses.
