Chapter 379 - Day MDCLVI, Part II

This avoiding fighting tactic went on for a few long minutes, but then I noticed an opening that was just too good to ignore, and send another fireball, just to realize it was a trap.

My spell got deflected and hit the terrace on the other side of the street riping a portion of it to shreds, sending pieces of metal, dirt, and plants into the air.

It was good that I didn't try closing the distance and attacking directly because that could end badly. What was even more important, I realized those things are not like the monsters I was used to. They were thinking, at least somewhat.

- They are rusty, so you should expect them to get more clever the longer you keep playing around with them - I heard The Great One in my head.

- You told me to preserve my energy.

- Yes, but I didn't tell you to fool around.

I snorted, and finally uses 'Shadow fusion', to put the fight on a higher gear. With a few shadow walks I closed the distance, and then did just the same, dancing around the ghosts, and swinging my weapon, adding 'Shadow reach' to spice things up, and redirect my attacks even more.

With few loud explosions of psychic powers, a cloud of smoke was torn to shreds, and a lot of the blows got deflected, but a few hit, cutting the dead body and taking the ghost down.

The undead turned into even more smoke, and a red shard was left after. With that, all the enemy shadows were gone, and just my remained. I send them back and picked up the stone.

- Good work, but you were a bit too noisy. Put that jewel away, and let me take you to another place, before something you cant deal with shows up.

I did just that, and out of the blue found myself in yet another place.

The first thing I noticed was the light. It was read from a dwarf star, hanging way above me in the sky. I wasn't sure if it was a real thing or not, because it well could be something created by the device.

Everything was one gigantic structure of multiple levers going down and above. It was made out of green bricks, that looked strange with the lighting. There was enough space there for everything to be decently illuminated.

There were buildings of different sizes there. Some remained only on one lever, others reached across several ones.

The bridges were connecting multiple sides, arching way above me, and also below. Sometimes they were just next to simple roads, seemingly for no reason. There was another strange thing. Water was running everywhere in channels, connected to ponds filled with creatures, and plants.

Slightly different from the ones you could find on earth, with one thing especially catching the eye. The leaves were not green, but red.

I saw few colorful flowers here and there, similar to lilies. They were beautiful with their whites and yellows.

It was a strange place, and I couldn't tell if I was in the clouds, or maybe even underground. The complex was just simply too overwhelming.

I allowed myself to admire my surroundings, but this time I was expecting the attack, and when two spiky balls went flying after me, I dodged without problems, allowing them to crash into the nearby wall.

I couldn't locate the ghost while looking around, and soon it became obvious why, since he jumped from above.

This one had a red cloth wrapped around him tightly, and some kind of tiara on the head. It was made of yellow metal, that in some places was turning orange. I had no idea what it was, and I didn't have time to think, since the bricks under my feet moved, making me lose balance.

That was just the beginning of trouble though, as the stones from all around me suddenly broke off, and went after me.

Avoiding was not a problem, even if there were around twenty of them. With 'Shadow fusion' on, I was way faster than I needed to be, but if I didn't have that's a skill, I probably would have to take few hits.

I ran away a bit, to put some distance between us. I wanted to know what other tricks that thing has in its sleeves. I send few exploding firebolts and did my best at keeping the distance. He had to get annoyed since soon a whole wall almost collapsed on me.

It was around a hundred meters tall and took down a building on the opposite side of the street, but that was not the end, as the brick assembled into several humanoidal shapes, that went chasing me. This convinced me to take on the offense.

I started by flooding the streets around me with shadows, so they would tank some of the flying objects for me, as I rushed towards the ghost, repositioning with shadow walk. When I got close enough, I threw a fireball, and immediately rushed even closer, to hand a powerful blow when the enemy was still covered by a could of flames caused by the explosion.

The fire magic had no effect, and I discovered it when my weapon hit the same obstacle. An invisible barrier around the undead that could stop even a hit from me. The impact was heavy and made a loud sound.

I repositioned immediately to not lose my tempo and landed a few other attacks,s but all of them couldn't pass the defensive magic.

- Fuck - escaped my mouth, as I was forced tog ain some distance.

I found myself in a tough position with my shadows being massacred by flying objects and brick golems, not to mention the ghost whom I couldn't even scratch. I had an idea, but such a move would stop me from hunting throughout the rest of the day, so I decided to try something else first.

Unfortunately, I didn't know yet what exactly I should try, so I ended up gaining some distance to think.
