92 Max treats her well

~ Elizabeth's apartment ~

Monday, 6:30 AM

Two alarms beeped at the same time, waking up Max and Liz. Both of them reached to the side to turn them off and then scooted back to the middle of the bed which still held their warmth.

Liz yawned and snuggled next to Max, the best bolster pillow ever.

He gently caressed her cheek with tips of his fingers, making her lip twitch. Max thought that he never saw a woman so beautiful in his life. Liz is amazing in every way possible.

He kissed her forehead, her eyelids, each of her cheeks and used all his willpower not to plant the next kiss on her lips.

'Take it slow, Max… Don't spook her away…', he told himself.

"You will be late if you sleep off again.", Max warned her.Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.novelhall.com for visiting.

Liz made a grumpy face before moaning in protest. Few seconds later, her eyes sprang open when she realized that the thing she is boldly hugging and sticking to is not a bolster pillow and even though they are dating, she should not be so forward. Ah, this is embarrassing!

And all those things over her face… was he kissing her?

Max noticed her discomfort and chuckled. "Good morning."

She cleared her throat and peeled herself away from him. "Good morning."

"What do you usually have for breakfast on weekdays?", Max asked. He already planned to go and get food while she is getting ready for work.

Liz thought for a second before responding: "It's too early for food. Coffee, at most."

"Go and get ready first.", Max gestured toward the bathroom.

Liz nodded and was half up when she hesitated. She leaned closer and kissed him on the cheek before bashfully avoiding his gaze and going to the bathroom.

Max looked after her and smiled. Yup, he is making a great progress.

Elizabeth got out of the bathroom, dressed up for work and followed the scent of freshly made coffee which seeped into the bedroom through the half-open door.

And there was Max, greeting her with a charming smile and two cups of coffee.

"Don't you need to get ready?", Liz asked when she noticed that Max sat with her to drink coffee and he is still in t-shirt and sweatpants in which he slept.

Max paused. "Do you want me to drop you off at work?"

"No, no… I was thinking that you should get ready for your work."

"I have time. I can drop you off and pick you up when you are done, if you wish." He didn't think about this as a possibility, but he is not opposed to it. He can drop her off, and still have time to come back and get ready for his work. And he can pick her up after work as well.

Liz stumbled when she realized that her question made him think how she expects him to drive her around… and he is OK with that. Ah, he really treats her well. "No need. I will see you after work. Thanks for the coffee."

They sipped coffee while chatting about the day ahead.

Liz told him that on Mondays she sees patients in her office, and that is not very exciting.

"How about your day?", Liz asked.

"I will be probably facing a lot of confused people for showing up on time and actually doing some work. Other than my father, Hunter and maybe my secretary, no one will dare to say anything in front of me openly, but I expect that I will be like an attraction of some sort until people get used to my presence." He said with a chuckle.

He looked at her seriously. "Liz, let me know if that doctor bullies you. You don't need to face him alone."

Liz was touched. She knows that he is talking about Dr. Snow. "I believe that he got the message on Saturday. But even if he didn't, it's work. He will not risk jeopardizing his reputation by making a scene. Don't worry."

Max's concern was apparent. Liz has too much faith in people. "I will stop worrying when you are back home. Don't give him a chance to catch you without anyone else around. No matter how much he cares about reputation at work, he is a man and his pride got a beating on Saturday.", he warned her.

Max also wanted to say that Liz should text and call often, to let him know that she is OK, but he knows that it would be too much. She has work to do (and so does he) and he should not ask her to spend her day on the phone with him. The least he wants her to think of him as a jealous and overbearing boyfriend. Max told himself to have faith in her.

Elizabeth reached her work in a good mood. She likes that Max woke up earlier than needed and made coffee while she was in the bathroom. And he was OK with the possibility of driving her around. No one ever did such things for her, but that is probably because she didn't have a boyfriend before. But even with that, she remembers many stories from other women who shared their boyfriend-experiences, and Liz is confident that Max treats her extremely well.

Liz reminded herself not to take him for granted. He is doing so many things for her, and it's working because it is making her happy, and she should do nice things for him as well. As for what those things are… she will do some research online, to get some ideas.

In the hallway, Liz greeted the nurse who just came out of her office.

It's not uncommon for nurses to come in and leave some paperwork, or a note. After all, the offices are not locked and outside regular work hours, there is no danger that they will intrude on someone's privacy because patients are not there. But Liz didn't miss a big grin on nurse's face.

Liz paused at the sight of a large flower bouquet on her desk. After a second of confusion, she smiled. It must be from Max.

She approached the flowers and inhaled deeply. The bouquet was dominated by white roses and light purple and yellow gladiolas, but it had few branches with jasmine blooms which made the whole office smell sweet and intoxicating.

Liz's smile dropped when she saw the card. It's from Dr. Snow. Why is he sending her flowers?

If he wants to apologize for being crude on Saturday, he can stop by and say, 'I'm sorry', and Liz would respond: 'No problem, just keep your distance to a professional interaction going forward…'

Liz practiced this in her mind more than once.

She knew that she can't escape Monday which will bring her into the proximity of Dr. Snow. Liz does not want to alienate herself from him, but she does not want to encourage any romantic ideas he might have. After all, this is a place of work, and the two of them are coworkers. She admires his professional achievements, but that is where it stops. As long as he keeps their interactions professional, she is OK staying civil.

She flipped the card and read:

"I am sorry for being insensitive. I hope you will give me another chance.

~ Christian"

Liz was not sure if he is referring for another chance to make a move on her, or he wants her to forget about Saturday's lunch and continue their interaction as coworkers.

She is not experienced in romancing, but she knows that flowers are beyond the scope of coworker relationship. If he wants to say 'sorry' and he is unable to say it in person, an email would do.

Liz also thought what Max would say if he found out that another man sent her flowers and she accepted it. Even if the intention is innocent, flowers usually point to romance, and she does not want to cause misunderstandings with Max when there should be none.

Liz kept the card on the side and called a nurse to come to her office.

She saw that it's a different nurse from the one who exited her office few minutes ago.

"Take it away, please.", Liz gestured toward flowers.

"They are beautiful. You don't want them?", nurse was surprised.

"This is an office where patients come. I don't want to keep fragrant flowers in it."

Nurse nodded in understanding. She took the bouquet and paused before exiting Liz's office. "Will you take it on your way home?"

"No. Do whatever you want with it.", Liz waved carelessly while powering-on her computer. She needs to check her schedule for the day.

Liz's face lit up when she saw a meeting request from Dr. Kaviraj starting from 11:30 AM, in Dr. Kaviraj's office. This probably means that Liz gets to assist on another surgery. Ah, she hopes that soon she gets to do surgeries as a primary surgeon, but she can't deny that assisting Dr. Kaviraj has the benefits of seeing how a seasoned surgeon handles specific situations.

It is time not to think about flowers, and any other distraction and to focus on work.
